I'm pretty sure that only having 10 months of OTR experience is going to screw me with pride. Even though I'm going to have a year of class A when I try to apply... I'm hoping I can persuade them but it's probably a insurance deal...

While I do have the local job I wanted, it gets old real quick going to the same 5 places over and over agian. I'm devoting way to much time to this job and not getting much out of it. My week consists of work, eat sleep until sunday when I can have some fun... When I'm OTR it's a solid two weeks or more of fun followed by 3-4 days at home and OTR beats local driving hands down.

So it's back OTR for me soon. Now it's time to search for the RIGHT company...

If you want to go with them, it is certainly worth pursuing. You never know until you ask. If you want to go back on the road, there are other carriers you can consider.

Chris, can you elaborate on why you don't want to go back to Gordon? In reading your blog and your post on here you seemed happy with them when you were running OTR with them. You were running back and forth to the Midwest and seemed content with them, and it seems as though you haven't been happy with a job since you left them.

WHen I applied back @ gordon I found out that I wouldn't be able to make it back on the target dedicated fleet. That's what I was shooting for the whole 10 months I was out there and I quit right before they put me on it. Believe me, I think about it every day. It is my biggest regret of my life quitting when I shouldn't have. They were even going to give me a month of leave then to come back and still be on the fleet, but no, I had to quit because I'd be much happier at home... NOT!

Gordon was real good to me but I have some things I want different out of a trucking company. If I have to be governed it should be around 70+ mph. It annoyed me running 65 heading east. I actually want to run east ALL the time... I don't want to run the 5 day in and day out... ugh... I just want to try something new.

I really don't want to be governed at 65 anymore.

One thing I have found out doing this for the the last 14 years; The companys that give you the shiny truck that runs 70 plus miles an hour dont want to pay, would rather make .42 a mile and drive 65 than .34 a mile and run over 70!

One thing about it Chris, within 100 miles of you, are several decent OTR companies.

Have you considered Earl Henderson Transportation? http://www.hendersontrucking.com/

Then there is John Christner; http://www.johnchristner.com/

You want a challange? Get your tank edorsement and try Jim Aartman; http://www.jimaartman.com/

Do you have HazMat? Try TSMT; http://www.tsmtco.com/default.htm

I know being governed can be annoying at times, but you will not make any more money at 70 versus 65.

It sounds like you're biggest hang up is being governed at 65. That doesn't seem like a huge reason to write Gordon off. They've got the traffic lanes you want to run. It may make sense to go back with them and if you want to get on the Target dedicated later you may have that chance.

I know you liked running the west coast to the midwest area and Gordons probably your best bet for that. Gordon also may let you pick your hometime somewhat from what you've said about them offering you a 30 day leave when you left.

Good Luck in whatever you do.

You know, you're about the first driver I've met who actually WANTS to run east. You think the 5 is bad? Try doing battle on the Cross-Bronx Expressway everyday to earn your daily bread. And why would you want to give up a steady lay at home for pocket pool in the sleeper? Man, you newbies are something else...
