I drove for Covenant in 2003. I hated it. i was single at the time and would stay out for 5-6 weeks at one shot and take 3-4 days off. Usually when it came time to go home though they "forgot" after I reminded them on many occasions (two weeks out, one week, 3 days day before). Or they just said freight isnt moving right. The first time i stayed out 2 and a half months and the second I stayed out 3 and a half months. the last time I was out for a while before i said just route me to a terminal and I turned the truck in with notice.

I went 2 months in july aug running the south with no a.c. and they refused to fix it. When they did someone at there shop just filled the coolant and said it was fixed two days later the sleeper lines had leaked out all of the coolant.

I dont want to sound like a complainer but for .26 cpm I couldnt put up with that. They may have changed a lot since then just my personal experience.

On a positive note I did recieve good miles and got an advance when I needed it!

just my 2 cents

Okay then, it looks like US Xpress may very be my choice. or let me just say this, I will look at US Xpress more so than I did at Covenant.

cant say I would go to us xpress either but thats just me. Went to there orientation and turned down the job offer. Sounded good on the phone and did the research and found some good and some bad but overall the attitude of the company is very poor from what I saw. I guess thats what you can expect when one person is heavily involved with Eaton FULLER transmissons and the other is a very high up on the board of the ATA.

Driver going to a company is your decison. Choose wisely and there will always be good points and bad points. To me an auto shift is nice but not for a new driver. (all us xpress owns) You may love it there who knows.

just my 2 cents and not trying to be a prude. There are companies I do like and Some I dont.

That is one thing that kind of bothers me, I'm not a new driver, I've been hauling freight for the last 12 years, I have driven all kinds of transmissions, but I have never sat behind the wheel of a truck with an auto shift trans, I don't know how well I'll be able to handle that. seems to me like it would really be tough to get used to.

Sorry Driver, I guess I read something wrong. ops: I am embarassed now and feel like a real butt. My sincere apologys.

Those autoshifts aren't that bad just gotta get used to not having to use the clutch except for starting and stopping. They can be nice in big cities, but will take some getting used to in mountains. just have to learn to use the hold gear button. One thing about them your left leg will sure never tire and ache again in big city traffic.

Hey TBOGLE05, i don't think anyone on here would call you a complainer, 3 and half months in a truck, i can't even imagine what that's got to be like, when i was with Commercial Carriers, i left out on Sunday night, and got home Friday, those 5 days in a truck were long enough for me to start going nuts, hopefully you've found something better than what Covenant had to offer, and as for the original poster, why have you limited yourself to just those two companies. I'm almost certain Commercial Carriers, or their sister company Coastal Transport will hire you as a newb., CCC's pay is going to be about the same as Covenants, but you'll get home regularly, and then with Coastal Transport you'll get a decent pay rate, and home weekends, it's flat bed, but to me a much option than covenant or USEXPRESS.

I hear ya, I drove an auto shift for a bit, but it had a clutch, so no diff than floating gears just that you think about shifting and if does it magically
I think id have a really hard time maneuvering without a clutch....

I was told by a driver that USX is a sister company to Covenant... Don't know if there is any truth...
