Have you ever driven an autoshift to actually compare driving both?

I didnt say anything knocking autoshifts and i am not opposed to driving one...i like manual and will be fine if thats all i ever have...I simply stated that I dont understand why there seems to be a steady supply of people coming into the industry that are only interested in companies with autoshifts. Its a very limiting thing to do. And yes to a certain degree, I think it does make you a little less of a driver if you never really master a manual. its one thing to know how to handle a manual real well and then decide that you prefer autoshift...but the people that are coming straight out of school and aiming for only autoshift companies are doing a disservice to themselves later on down the road if they switch companies. people that know manuals real well can switch jobs to any company at anytime without having to completely learn a new style of driving....people coming straight out of the gates into auto's can not say the same thing. Just my opinion and 2 cents...again..re-read my initial post and you will see that i never knocked auto shifts..just stating an opinion.

Maverick would also put you in an autoshift truck and get you on weekends if you're not afraid of flatbed work. The 04's and 05's are sticks, but the 06 and 07's are autos and all you have to do is request the autoshift truck when you're getting your truck assignment.
As for driving an auto, it doesn't make you any less of a driver at all. IMO, it can make things a little easier, but I went to an autoshift and then back to a 13 speed and it's really like riding a bicycle. It's not exactly rocket science and once you have a little experience with a manual it would take you about a day to get the hang of it again. I know guys who have been out here for 20 years and they still scratch a gear every once in a while. People make a big deal about how everyone should learn to shift first and it's really not that big of a deal. If you want to learn about proper gear selection in an autoshift, flip the button from auto to manual on the lever and shift the gears yourself. All trucks shift differently and you can go from a 10 speed to a 13 or 18 speed and you will always have something to learn anyhow. Just drive the truck and choose the company AND transmission that works best for you and RESPECT whatever it is that you're driving.
