My 2 cents on autoshift.
I have been driving for 22 years. There is not a trans a can't drive.
I drive for Averitt and just got a 2007 freightshaker with a auto in it.
I love it. Its the best thing to happen to trucks in a long time.
I have read in trade mags that in about 2 or 3 years you will have to order a truck with a stick. That trucking like cars more drivers want autos.

Just make sure you pick a company that pays good and fairly so you can support yourself or your family. If you pick a company with autos but they screw you every week when it comes to your pay, then I would't think it would be worth driving an auto. Most of your driving is gonna be on interstates anyway.Sure you'll have the occasional parkin' lots, but its really not that big of a deal nowadays.I'm assuming you had manuals in school. IMO, pay and benifits are the 2 big ones.
