I dont know what they pay,or how their benefits are,but you would be working 24/7 trying to sell what you have on your truck. Basically, you will be a door-to-door salesman in a truck.

I sold vacuums for almost three years. It's a good living. Made about a grand a week.

I've been a Schwanns customer for probably 15 years. The food is delicious. Some think it's expensive, but it comes to you and you don't have to stand in line at the grocery store.

I've bought Schwanns in two areas and they have a heck of a time keeping drivers. That's mostly due to the hours. Some of those guys work 16 hours a day six days a week. If you can hang, benefits are pretty good from what I understand. Most of the guys that have been there a while make pretty good.

Lets pile it on and add Amway, Tupperware, Avon, Homebright, and every other sprocket and widget that is sold outside of normal retail channels.

I had a friend of mine that was an OTR driver and his wife was wanting him home more. His wife bought food from the Shwanns man, I think she got more then food and so did he  her Shawnns guy told her he makes a grand a week and so she talked my buddy into going to work their so he would be home more. He did the training and then went selling with a partner and they did alot of country delivery's and every where they went he was told it was company policy to back into peoples driveway, which he couldn't understand. He lasted three days and was starting each morning at 7am and would not get home till around 10 or 11 at night. He is Divorced, Happy and driving OTR.

Ian williams is right....not worh it.. I worked in fremont and was the 1st employee there, and also had the #2 highest earning in the nation. Let me tell you..........work at 7am-to 11pm...not good.....really...knocking on doors at 10:00pm.....oh belive me.that was the worst. They do have good benifits, and weekends off..unless you didnt do your route, then you have to cover them,my stops were 200 a day.5 days a week....so,good luck.

Shouldn't schwans just hang it up? I think the days of door to door sales are pretty well over with. I am guilty of not even answering the door for these people :P

Schwans is in no way a struggling company.

Trainees usually spend time as "routebuilders"....you know, door to door handing out free gallons of ice cream (which is very good by the way) and brochures.

Regular route drivers simply "maintain" their given routes and normally grow them thru word of mouth. (Maintaining 200 stops doesn't leave much time for knocking on extra doors)

When you make a stop you're mostly delivering a "pre-order" and taking a pre-order (sell) for your next bi-weekly stop.

I had many customers I hit around lunch or dinnertime that always set an extra plate...I very seldom had to buy meals on my routes.

Very friendly atmosphere.

BUT...the days are long. I liked being at my first stop by 7am and hustled to be done by 9 or 10 pm...
