I was browsing through Conway's truckload website and notice that they're now hiring solo drivers for regional runs in the south. If I'm not mistaken they use to only hire for teams but now it says that they've got new trucks for solo drivers. Does anybody know anything about this regional runs? I know the teams make good money and have regular home time. I'm not really interested in going back OTR, but it's always good to know, just in case

All the Conway Truckload drivers I have seen are teams. See them alot coming in on the weekends and parking at the terminals. Most I have seen are husband and wife. But I dont know alot about them, but I do know they make great money and drive nice Volvo's

i currently drive for con-way freight (central)and for what i know the truckload drivers are teams due to most of our freight being next day, if there were any solo opportunities i believe our ( con-way) line haul drivers would get those runs ----i could also be totally wrong but this is the way i understand it 8)

There are some 500-600 runs in the system that would go a bit quicker as one 10-11 hr trip rather than 2X 5hr linehaul runs, with a 2-3 hour delay in the middle to break and make sets. Sacramento CA to Salt Lake City UT for example.
I also suspect that a Volvo with a 53' gets better mileage than a Sterling pulling a pair of 29's. Replacing contract trailers with out own in house teams makes sense. That being said as a CWX driver I'm carefully watching this, as it could be a underhanded way to outsource some of the better linehaul runs. I don't want to put up with all the low seniority BS only to find that they have moved to goalposts on me.

davenport1, I know a lil about it. i ran across a female driver out of Memphis,Tn one day, she was solo @ conway truckload. She told me that they usally have her home everyother day and off weekns, she gt plenty of miles and they try and run her to death but she loves it. She said that they give her runs of 700 or less, almost always the next day del. If freight gets slow then she will pull a linehaul load out of the terminal to another terminal, but it rare that happens, or she will do local work, sometimes teams drop load early on yard and she will del all depnds. she likes it say money is great and tah is great. truck is slow 68 but will do if she is home every other day and off o weekns. now she said it differs from person to person some stay out longer but it's all up to u..
I thought about giving them a call, but I have a good thing going and dont want to mess it up..... |
