I am an ex-driver with 2 years prior Tractor Trailer experience. I do not have a current valid CDL Class A license, i do have an application on Class A Drivers, i'm tired of being jobless.

Depending on what type of freight you want to haul, you might look at trucking companies that hire within your area that train, and help you to get your CDL. I believe some companies have 'schools' to help with getting your CDL.

P.S believe it will aslo depend on what the felony is for.

A felony is a big kink in the hose.
Not good.. You might find something local for the time being. Very few companies will look at felons. Not trying to be offensive, but just saying..

I'm looking into that, JackRabbit. I did find another trucking related web site that show local trucking outfits within my corner of the woods. It is hard to state if they will hire me or not, all i can do is call and ask. As for my felony, yes i did screw up and i take responsibility for my part in it.

I think the felony is a bit too recent for most companies. As big a problem as that is.... not having a current CDL is just as big. One should never let that license expire because you will have to start all over. (I realize the felony probably caused that expiration.) They say that the "worker pool" is pretty much the same for truck driving and construction. Any way you could get into some kind of construction job for a few years and let your past get behind you? It wouldn't make much sense to PAY for the refresher course and a CDL until it does. What "neck of the woods" are you in? Any jobs with box trucks that might only require a Class B but give you some verifiable driving time?
I appreciate your humble attitude, and wish you the best. Time to "think outside the box." Don't let the "perfect" get in the way of the "possible." There are still many careers you can make a living in. I wouldn't normally ask this... or offer this advice... but, are you a religious person? There are many church affiliated (and some gov't ones) that will give you a chance to get involved in something to "rehabilitate" YOUR RECORD (not saying your SELF.) Often there are business people involved who take notice of someone who is really trying and dedicated to changing their future. This often leads to new careers or assistance in getting back into the one you prefer. Not only do you need to knock on a LOT of doors.... you need to knock on all KINDS of doors. Keep your chin up. EVERYONE makes mistakes in life. The measure of your character is in how you deal with / learn from them.

My former C.D.L. expired in 2009, my felony happened in 2011. I'm looking into a small family owned outfit in illinois, heck, i cannot even get a job at Mcdonalds flipping burgers. Yeah i heard some felons work at Mcdonalds, how many felons work there with a "violent" crime in their background? As far as religion goes, Golfhobo, i am in a spiritual, non religious program. I'd like to drive a box van, possibly delivering expedited freight. Anyway, if you have any info that you dug up, G.H., i'm all ears.
