I was thinking something kinda similar. With all the cameras and replays, they don't need him there. You say his job is to call holding? How does he see that through the backs of the defensive line? Heck, put him right beside the QB. Oh wait.... then he'd be IN THE WAY! :hellno:
But, to answer your question, if someone upstairs saw holding, he radios it to the referee in his ear, and the ref throws the flag. Problem solved.
