Thanks for the pxs of Dale Sr. in the wall that fatefull day. The real hit came fro the nudge he got about 2 seconds before on the last lap. That sent him careening into the wall, killed him on impact with the wall. He had a way of manipulating how his harness crossed him and used to change it just before the green flag. It was across a sharp edge and had catastrophic effect on the harness, severing one side which sent him into the windshield in a twisting motion. Broke his neck quick... Pretty Sad..like him or not.. I think we have beat up the issue of Mr. Vickers poor judgement/and or driving..
On to Lowe's Motor Speedway.. A fast place again.. JJ has kind of own this track for the last 5-7 races... What do ya think...???

I was never a Fan of the "Old Man" but he brought NASCAR to what it is Today. I saw that race when he Died and I thought it was just another Typical every Sunday Accident.
His Legacy and the Thanks from Drivers Today have him to thank for the New Barrier Walls.

Yes, the start of the wreck for Sr. was with contact with Marlin. Marlin actually attempted to miss him as he came down to block. Right before they touched, Marlin dipped his tires just slightly below the white/yellow line in 3 and 4. He gave what he could without wrecking himself but Sr. kept coming and they touched. Sr. did what he knows to do once he got turned sideways on the apron, start trying to gather it up, had he not done that and just let it spin out, he would not have died. Had Schrader not been up in the high groove still digging, Sr. survives that crash. He was only going to hit the wall with a glancing blow instead of head-on with a 160 mph run.
Tiller, the seat belt wasn't the killer, it was the force of the wreck. The seatbelt had to restrain him somewhat because it was a basal skull fracture that killed him. If the seat belt had broke as soon as hard forces were put against it, he would have slammed the steering wheel and died of blunt force trauma. His skull would not have seperated from his spine, ie basal skull fracture either. You cannot hit the windshield in a race car with your body, the steering wheel will catch you and put you right back into your seat unless the car starts flipping over. He was still in his seat when the car came to a rest. If he died from a broken seat belt, then why are these drivers today wearing HANS devices?? NASCAR would have implemented new safety standards with the seat belts if that had been the culprit, they didn't because it wasn't.
