Alcohol and OTR

Most truckstops sell radar detectors too, which are illegal in CMV's.

However, I noted that the reg says (paraphrased) that it is illegal to USE a radar detector in a CMV, or to OPERATE a CMV that is so equipped or has one on on board. It would appear that being PARKED and not operating either the CMV OR the detector would not preclude the actual "temporary" existence of one in the CMV. :lol2::lol2:

I've actually seen it done! Dunno if you could call it a tailgate party, maybe bobtail party... but he wasn't bobtailed... at either rate it was some holiday, don't remember which, maybe new years... TMC Flatbedder had a keg on the back of his tractor, some folding chairs, and a flat screen TV playing some game, and a portable grill making weeners and hamburgers, about 15 different drivers all crowded around drinking and eating, right in a pilot if I remember correctly.
Seen a similar type set-up at the TA in Las Vegas no bobtails involved - grilling, coolers of beer, boomboxes, and even some chics. To top it off the TA had a sign about no alcoholic beverages allowed on the premises:roll: It was hotter than pitch, I walked across the street to Bass Pro Shops Casino. Made my donations in the cheapest slots I could find, and had complimentary cold beers. Was one of the better restarts I have had.

most truck stops are open to the general motoring public and RV groups. the argument could be made that they are the intended market for such items.

That argument could be made. It could also be made that the beer they sell is for the general motoring public and RV groups.

agreed sir. considering most places (other than restaurants and bars) have a liquor license that is for "off premise " consumption only.

Also, there are a few truckstops I've seen that have signs POSTED prohibiting the "consumption of alcoholic beverages" on the premises. These signs, BTW, are posted out in the parking lot amongst the TRUCKS. Seems as though that would be redundant IF there were a "standing" prohibition for truckers to consume alcohol in their trucks. Just sayin'

In 12+ years of driving, I don't ever recall seeing a truckstop with a bar in it. Where is there such a place?

Also... The T/A in Portland, OR (can't remember the actual town name right now) it's just east of town on I-84 exit 17 or so. Right SMACK in the middle off the main hallway between the restaurant and the store. It's the Sports Bar I mentioned before. 5 or 6 T.V's and Karaoke on weekends. Then, there's Jubitz on the north side of Portland. Has a country/western bar in it with LIVE bands on weekends. The Little America in Wyoming has a SMALL bar (for truckers only.) I'm pretty sure I remember a few others, but not so well anymore... obviously. Been out of OTR too long! :lol2:
