Most truckstops sell radar detectors too, which are illegal in CMV's.

And the REG that forbids them is SO clear, simple and precise. One would think they could have done the same with alcohol.... IF they meant to prohibit its USE in the same clear manner.

However, I noted that the reg says (paraphrased) that it is illegal to USE a radar detector in a CMV, or to OPERATE a CMV that is so equipped or has one on on board. It would appear that being PARKED and not operating either the CMV OR the detector would not preclude the actual "temporary" existence of one in the CMV.

Seen a similar type set-up at the TA in Las Vegas no bobtails involved - grilling, coolers of beer, boomboxes, and even some chics. To top it off the TA had a sign about no alcoholic beverages allowed on the premises:roll:

It was hotter than pitch, I walked across the street to Bass Pro Shops Casino. Made my donations in the cheapest slots I could find, and had complimentary cold beers. Was one of the better restarts I have had.

most truck stops are open to the general motoring public and RV groups. the argument could be made that they are the intended market for such items.

That argument could be made. It could also be made that the beer they sell is for the general motoring public and RV groups.

agreed sir. considering most places (other than restaurants and bars) have a liquor license that is for "off premise " consumption only.

I ALSO agree that the REV's point is valid. However, there are also truckstops with BARS inside them, and no truckers are "banned."

Also, there are a few truckstops I've seen that have signs POSTED prohibiting the "consumption of alcoholic beverages" on the premises. These signs, BTW, are posted out in the parking lot amongst the TRUCKS.

Seems as though that would be redundant IF there were a "standing" prohibition for truckers to consume alcohol in their trucks.

Just sayin'

In 12+ years of driving, I don't ever recall seeing a truckstop with a bar in it. Where is there such a place?

If I recall correctly there is one on the east side of Yorktown, PA. There is also one in Kansas City. However, the one in KC now keeps the door locked between the store and the bar.

Yakima, WA. It's called the GearJammer. It's currently an Ambest affiliate and has a bar INSIDE the truckstop. There IS also an entrance from the parking lot, but also one from inside down a hallway past the video games.

Also... The T/A in Portland, OR (can't remember the actual town name right now) it's just east of town on I-84 exit 17 or so. Right SMACK in the middle off the main hallway between the restaurant and the store. It's the Sports Bar I mentioned before. 5 or 6 T.V's and Karaoke on weekends.

Then, there's Jubitz on the north side of Portland. Has a country/western bar in it with LIVE bands on weekends.

The Little America in Wyoming has a SMALL bar (for truckers only.)

I'm pretty sure I remember a few others, but not so well anymore... obviously. Been out of OTR too long! :lol2:
