Default disabling a qualcom for..a few minutes...is it possible?

Is it possible to temporarily disconnect/ turn off a qualcomm for a few minutes?

I'm with a company that uses paperless logs so trying to pull over for the night can be a problem. If I pull over too soon, well, it is time lost. If I wait 1/2 til time's up and the truck stop is full, well, it is a problem.

I know everyone has this problem but with paperless logs it's worse because it alway knows. It would be great to wrap aluminum foil around it for a few minutes. Anyone know of any technique that might work?

Is this just a problem that everyone on paperless logs has?

Thanks,
new driver

Aluminum foil doesn't work. If you could find a wide bridge to park under that will block the signal. But DO NOT attempt to disable the unti or unplug wires. They have a memory system and can communicate errors to your company. If they find out, you will be fired on the spot.

The problem you are having is really one you are going to have to deal with. In order for you to "disable" the QC enough to stop the log function to stop working you would have to unplug the unit. If you do that then there will be a total loss of telemetry and your company is going to know that you tampered with the unit.

When the QC is unable to send singles it stores them in memory until it can. So you see, blocking the single is not going to do anything to "stop the clock" on your paperless log system.

It's called a Qualcomm "skip" and when you do it, you're terminated for it.

Zen what are you trying to do or not do?

I drive for Werner, which has the paperless logs and I have had my share of fun with the qcom and logs and a few of the things that can go screwy.

Since there is only one company in the nation authorized to use paperless logs at this time, it is not hard to figure out who you work for. That company will terminate you immediately for tampering with the QC, ECM or any other electronics in the truck.

Best advice, DON'T do it!

Before long, many of the larger companies will be going paperless within the next year or so! So we might as well get use to it.

I know of, and have driven for some, several companies that use paperless logs. Werner may be the only mega-carrier doing it but they are certainly not the only carrier doing it.

I would have to look itno it, but as of the first of this year, Werner was the only one authorized by the FMCSA to be completely paperless.

Curious if some are doing the electronic logs, but have to print it out and have a signature. Would be interesting to know. I know TMC was testing a system for paperless, but the drivers still had to back it up with a paper log.

Thanks
