Default Team Off Duty Time

On a team operation can you mix sleeper & off duty time on your 10 hrs off?

For example you drive 8hrs , go in the sleeper 8hr and then have 8 hrs off duty. Or do you have to have 10hrs either off duty or sleeper?

Yes you can do that:

You can get the 10 hour break 3 ways

1) 10 hours in the sleeper (or more)
2) 10 hours off duty (or more)
3) any combination of off duty & sleeper. 8 hours of it does not have to be in the sleeper, you can go; off 1, sleep 6, off 3. You just can not break that 10 hour break up with any driving or on duty!

Have a Great Day

Thanks for the info.

So Lines 1 & 2 are interchangeable from a 10 hrs off standpoint.

Next year my terminal is bringing back the bad idea of a team run to Fresno. You're on the truck for 14+hrs but only make as much as a solo line driver would in 11.

While you can break up the 10 hour break into any combo of off duty and sleeper that you want to so long as it is not broken with any lines 3 or 4 activity, a team driver needs to be careful.

Since the current version of the regs state that if you are in the sleeper you should be logging that sleeper, and that anytime spent riding in the passenger seat is to be logged as on duty, then in order to satisfy a full 10 hour break while the truck is moving then the only option is to log the full 10 in the sleeper.

Yeah, but if I read you right, you're getting the same money for about 4 hours less work.

Not sure why you would take 8 hours off duty unless the round trip is only 14 hours, and you go out the same time every day. If so.... YOU are at home for the 8 hours off duty, whereas the solo driver will spend his downtime on the road.
