I wouldn't say you held anything hostage. They probably changed the terms of the agreement in some whay which caused the contract, verbal or written, to be null and void, which entitled you to seek new payment terms, including COD. IMO, you the right thing.

I wonder what it could be. You said you got loaded, so you must have had a confirmation from them. Maybe you made some ammendments to the conf and wanted them to sign off on it?

I got it. The shipper made you wait and CH told you they would pay you detention. You wanted it in writing and they're not giving it. You say, no revised conf, no delivery. How did I do?
