Pretty much an uneventful trip. The same old stuff. Hookers walking around drawing pictures on the sides of vans then praying to there work, crashed trucks that look like they just drove off the side of the road into the bridge supports, other trucks broke down on hills in 110 degree heat. I forget where I was the other day but I had driven my standard 300 miles from 3am to 8am and was stopping to take a snooze. I got out of the truck to take a little walk and one of my trailer tires was flat and coming apart. I ended up driving 50 miles back the other way to the T/A and having my spare put on. It pays to carry a spare as it only cost me $30 bucks to have it put on. It's already showing signs of lots of wear due to being mismatched in size. When I get home I'll buy 2 new matched tires and put the spare back in the holder. This is one thing I've discovered, you can't just buy 1 new tire. The onion place gave me 100 pounds of onions for myself and I kept them on the floor in the passenger side. All day my eyes were burning until I realized it was the onions. I stopped and put them in trash bags and tied them shut. 2 days later my eyes hurt again and I noticed water on my rubber floor mat and condensation on the bags. The onions were mush and had eaten through the bag. So much for them. I should have kept them on the trailer with the rest of them. Not much else going on. Pretty boring trip this time just tooling along. Truckers getting busted left and right in Indiana. I tried to get an inspection and they wouldn't do it. I need 2 more to get my safety rating posted. The DOT guys still don't know why I get a green light on every scale. I'm suppose to come up as weigh and inspect on every scale because I don't have a safety rating. I don't feel like getting another load home so I'm going to dead head it today. I've been going non stop for 15 days and the money has been good so I'll take the rest of the week off and try for a load on Friday. I should have tons of money waiting for me. It seems like all my loads are 5 day trips for $5,000. I was talking to a bunch of owner operators in CA at the coffee counter and they were all trying to get loads but only being offered $1.00 or less per mile??????? These guys were all leased to companies and getting screwed. That was is, $1.00 per mile and no fuel money!!! They had all been in the business for many years and didn't have a clue how to get there own authority. They only had access to the load board to call on loads and couldn't post there trucks to get there own loads. I think that's were the trick is at least in my case. I post my truck and don't call anyone and just wait until the phone rings. When they call, it's leave NOW and a decent rate. 600 miles a day seems to be the norm for me now and have settled into a regular schedule of driving 300 miles from 3am to 8am, nap for 2 hours then drive another 300 miles then sleep another 7. Seems to work pretty good. I get up around 1am or so and take a shower. No lines at all. Have coffee and read email and this forum for a while then fuel up with no lines. Hit the road until 8am and get a parking spot in a rest area because everyone else is awake now and gone so plenty of spaces. Nice and cool in the early morning. That's about it for the past few weeks. Not much to report other than drive, drive and more driving. Still love it though!!! |
Do you put where you want to go when you post your truck? Any info about what you want?
|

Man, if I had those onions in my cab, I would have been crying! :P

Onions in the cab EEEEWWW!! I would not have been able to drive!! we would be coming back from CA and be BEHIND a flat pulling onions and I would be crying...  Even driving by the onion fields made me cry!!
Oh well, glad to see you are OK and still plugging along. Just got connected to DSL today so I'm back....  tootie |
I was crying, that's why I put them in plastic trash bags and that's when they turned to mush 2 days later.

FYI Steve,
Onions tend to create their own moisture, thats why they store them in vented onion sacks. Nexy time jusy hang them from your headache rack and you'll be fine. I thought you were crying over Paris. |
