Forgot about the "Country Bunker" part.
When you pull into the IOWA80 I was on the left side all the way down 2nd row with my tractor facing out. Got my hat too!!! I called the person I'm delivering to yesterday and noticed I knew the area code on his number. I asked him about it and come to find out he lived on the same street as I did years ago. Small world. I'm in CA right now getting ready to head out early to the customer site. They spoke to the Monks and I'm being allowed to pull in as early as I want. I promised I would be as quiet as a church mouse. :D It was 115 yesterday. I had Idle Air hooked up plus ran my truck at the same time. I met the people next to me and they were also doing the same PLUS, running an APU with an A/C. I came back to my truck at one point and had to use my shirt to open the door. My door handle is chrome and was red hot. I'm delivering this morning and that should take about 15 minutes then heading to Bakersfield for the rest of the day. I had my truck posted for Wed and got a call from a broker about a load back to NJ. When I got his packet I looked him up and no trace what's so ever of his MC number on the FMCSA site or any other place else. No trace of his company name on the WEB or any load board. I called him back and turned it down and he was saying left and right that he has this document and that, that he could fax to me. I finally had to say NOOOO and hang up. He wouldn't take no for an answer. I turned off my phone and now he's sending me faxes how I accepted a load and turned it down. Next thing I get a phone call from one of my load boards. He tried to put a mark on my rating but he couldn't produce a signed contract which I never did sign. They just wanted to let me know he was trying but no success. They couldn't find his MC number either. |
I think one good turn deserves another, make some calls to his shipper and alert them to the facts you found. It seems pretty simple, with all the regulation in this industry,....how can you not be listed in all the places you looked for him. Who holds his surety bond?, is he even legit. Whats his "so called" MC##, I've got some time to look him up closer. I'm sure they would be interested.
I have to admit that all of your "broker woes" have certainly opened a door into how to handle these people. Keep up the good work,...you have 7 days to continue my education   |
I'm just going to let dead dogs lay and forget about it. The first clue I had was his carrier package was 1 page. No mention of W9, authority, insurance or anything else. He even gave me the customer name and address without a signed agreement. Just didn't seem right.
I dropped off my load this morning at the monastery. Pretty cool place with all these monks walking around that looked like "Fryer Tuck"...Once again, most of you are too young to know who that is. And no, it's not freaking Men in Tights. It was pretty hot out there taking the tarp off and putting everything away. Most of my straps and bungee cords were a little melted together from that 115 degree heat in Las Vegas. I'm sitting at a truck stop in Bakersfield that I've been to twice before. Roberts or something like that. I should really know it. The owner always comes over in his golf cart and talks for a long time. Nice guy. I almost called him up and told him to come get me after eating at Denny's. It was my first meal of the day and I needed a wheel barrow to take me back to the truck. Off to Huron in the morning for more onions then on my way to Maryland. There are lots of loads heading back to my neck of the woods so I'll probably head home for a few days then off again. I seem to finally be on a roll where I don't have something holding me back at home before heading out. I have two of my carriers that I do a lot of loads for doing automatic deposit into my checking account so that's cool. Heading over the mountain from Las Vegas into California I never saw so many broke down trucks on the side. Must have been one every 1/4 mile at least. Sometimes a few in a row. I'm assuming it was from the high heat. My fan would come on, cool down the engine then 5 minutes later the temp was up and then the fan again. I thought I had a defective tire on the back of my trailer. There are a few small chunks missing. I then realized it must be hitting the winch. I pulled into the CA checkpoint where they talk to every trucker that comes in. I think they just want to hear you talk and see your face in case you've been drinking or something. There office and platform are level with your truck so it's like a drive up window. I pulled up and asked for a Big Mac, fries and a coke. It took him a few seconds before it sunk in and started to laugh. He asked what I was hauling. I told him a bunch of illegals from New Hampshire being smuggled into Mexico. He laughed and said OK. Oh well, enough rambling. Time to write my daily letter to Paris then off to bed. |
So, Dogfood. I think it's time for you to start a thread of your own and write a little about your adventure. I for one would like to know where you got your start, how long trucking and all that other crapola.

I'll put it all in an call it "New OO finally on the freakin' road"
I've had to fix a few things on the truck that I missed, I have a few days to get it all done, because I'm waiting on my trailer title, and my girl to finish the logo. Tell Paris I said hi. |

I told her to walk,...she needed the exercise, and if she didn't get home in an hour,...I would come get her with the John Deere. |

I was 19 yrs old, she went from 105lbs to 215lbs in less than two years.
Now,....I could have worked with her on that,....I understood she had issues. It was when she threw the Christmas tree out the door, and smashed our pumpkins when I started to worry. Then was the night she told me that she though about killing me in my sleep, and smashing our son's head with a hammer  , I called her family and told them to come get her,...right NOW,...and never saw her again,.....never. I signed the divorce papers for her a couple of years later, and that was that. |
whats up Steve? did Paris like the big ol red Star so much you can't get rid of her? or are you just busy makin money?
