I had to be 100% American to take this load |
Steve,
According to Google, Avila Beach is a fun place to be. This month, June, there is a Beer Festival and a Blues Festival plus a host of other beach activities. Enjoy! |

I'm betting you end up at VandenBurg AFB. Hunter Ligget is possible.....but I'm betting VandenBurg. |
I agree with Orange, Vandenberg sounds about right. Not close to Huntington Beach, more like Pismo and San luis Obisbo...other than the June Gloom, it's not a bad time to be there. If you head south, between Santa Barbara and Ventura, there's a spot you can get off the 101 at Rincon State Beach and park right along the beach...as long as there's a spot between the RV's. Don't count on much in the way of truckstops once you get West of I5 though.
Actually, on second thought, it can't be Vandenberg...too far away. Must be Hunter Liggett. |
Well Steve if you hit something that loads you up to the San Jose/San Fracisco area give me call, I'll buy dinner. By the way is black Ford Crown Vic and Black Suburban with the tinted windows still following you. You know the ones driven by the guys who talk into the cuff on their shirts?? Oh I wasn't allowed to tell you that, oops! Bill (PS U got your passport on you dont't you??)

I'm not sure why they are making a big deal about citizenship and past record. I mean, it's just a load of steel.
I'm sure Avila Beach is a fun place to be, just as long as your not in a truck. Not like I'm going to pull up to a spot and put a few quarters in the parking meter. Chances are, I'll end up 100 miles away before I'm able to park. It always sounds nice to be in some of these places but in reality, forget it. |
Steve, if you 're going to deliver in Avila Beach (near Pismo Beach Ca), try to find a way to eat at Alex's BBQ in Shell Beach (about 1-2 mi south of Avila Beach)....some of the best damn BBQ ribs I've ever had was there. The entire town is 100 yds off of 101...you could park on the shoulder and walk to it. Google map it.
Good luck and drive safe.... |
Steve,
You have said that you had security clearance in the past. If so, you must understand that the issue of citizenship and past record doesn't have anything to do with the load of steel. It's all about you, personally, being cleared, by security, to enter the facility to make the delivery. If you, or anyone else, should make a habit of talking too much about such facilities, and speculating about what you might have seen while inside such facilities, then you probably will not be getting anymore deliveries to such facilities. It's best to just make the delivery, then forget about it and move on down to the beach and have a blast. You could, most probably, find yourself a long haired messcook, there, to have fun with. Have fun! NFRay |
Believe me, I've been well trained in security. If there was even a hint of having to keep my mouth shut I would have been briefed and also signed an acknowledgment.
My guess is that this place is some small satellite location with a fear that it could be some terrorist target and letting civilians in would just increase the risk. Google doesn't allow a satellite close up of this section. I've done work in the past for the DOD, NSA and Navy. I wasn't allowed to leave the country without permission for quit some time. Pretty much anything I worked on in the past is now common knowledge although I can't remember anything of value anyways. |
Steve..word of advise..fuel up in Bakersfield, before heading over to Avila Beach. The only truckstop over that way(just north of Paso Robles) usually runs about 15 to 20 cents more per gallon than the TS'es in Bakersfield & on I-5.
If you drop into CA on I-80, you have Truckstops on I-5 before you get to the CA46 exit, which takes you across the hills and drops you in to Paso Robles, then the beaches. If you drop into CA on I-15 or I-40, then you want to head north to Bakersfield on hiway 58 out of Barstow, then hope on CA46 at B-field and head west. Taking 58 cuts about 3 hours drive time off going through LA area, and is shorter by about 50 miles. |
