Let's see.... Christmas Spirit.... (Pinch... OUCH!!!!) No, I'm still very much alive.

They do ( or did ) make light for 12 volt power that could be plugged into a cigarette lighter. I still have mine, and they all still work. Mine are about 7 years old, and I've only replaced two bulbs in one of the strings.
You know, DOT has been known to check them over, and issue a $60 fine for each bulb not working. I'd have them lit going down the road, then I found out about that. But, they still look great in a truck stop parking lot.

I bought 6 extra LED lights (4 for the trailer and 2 for the truck) and will have them installed before I leave on the next trip. The Flying J in McCammon, Idaho had a good deal on them. My rig will not look like a Xmas tree but it'll be close.

I would LOVE to see someone quote me the REG that allows the DOT to fine you for a nonworking bulb in a string of CHRISTMAS lights.... or any OTHER (chicken) lights that are not required by Dot/Fmcsa!!

The christmas lights I don't know about, but as for the chicken lights, if it's mounted to the truck, then it must BE operational. We just had this discussion a month or so back and they quoted the REG and gave a link, but I'm to lazy this morning to search it out again LOL

Two years ago, a driver in MO got fined for 8 lights out on his Christmas string on the outside of his truck. $60 each.
A year and a half ago, I got a level 1 in GA and they would not give me a CVSA sticker because the trailer had 9 lights across the top in back, not simply 3. (Suppose I throw a couple of rocks up there and break 6 of them out. Then, I'll only have 3. "Then, I'll have to fine you for 6 lights not working") And, those were almost his exact words.

Along with the Federal Regs, you had better be able to check state by state as well. They are quite capable of throwing in a few zingers.

The Peterbilt dealer got back to me with a quote on how much they'd charge to install the 6 LED lights on the truck and trailer: 8 (eight) hours of labor! Needless to say I wished him a Merry Xmas and said I'd take my business elsewhere
