Have you checked the idler pullies? A little wobble will take out the belt.

Also, try and get the Leece-Neville replacement alt for your engine. The Delco burns up quickly if you dont ground it from the post on the rear (not sure why it wasn't done at the factory) but when I took mine to the IH dealer, that was the 1st thing the mechanic did and it charged fine after that
I thought Leece-Neville was junk because that's what they put on at the plant. I replaced the starter and all pulleyes during the first year.

IH puts Delco-Remy on from the factory, even my build sheet lists it........ I put a 200amp Leece-Neville on the truck after I burned up the second Remy, it charged perfect and didn't have any problems. It also had an internal regulator but was $335 at Kenworth
