Tracer you need to carry a spare alternator and belts. I don't know about your truck but I can change out my alternator in about a half hour, so there's no need to pay some one else to do it, especially on the side of the road. Matter of fact I just changed my alternator, and went and bought another one for a spare. Peterbilt has them for 193.00, my style alternator anyway. I don't know if you have the same kind.

This is only the second time my alternator belt broke since April 2007 - when I bought the truck. I'd rather pay someone once every 2 years to replace it, especially in winter. But having belts and an alternator onboard wouldn't hurt, that's for sure. At least when you break down, you're only paying for labor.

Well, it's a always a good idea. I've got a brand new Leese-Nevile 160 amps brash-less at KW dealer for $159. Paid $90 labor at TA. Otherwise it would cost me about $4-500 for some piece of crap. BTW Tracer, it's kinda strange, that you've got 2 belts quit on you in just 3 years. I've sold my first truck with original belts at almost a million miles....Something is not right there....

I'm taking the truck and trailer to the nearby Peterbilt Monday for grease and to install some extra LED... Will also ask them to see about the belt. Maybe there's some sharp edge on a pulley somewhere. Thanks for the tip. I thought 2 belts in 4 years was normal

My 05 IH went thru 2 belts in 3yrs. Might be something with the ACERT set-up???

My 99 FLD still has the factory belts on it and are like brand new (they are the v-style tho)

Also, try and get the Leece-Neville replacement alt for your engine. The Delco burns up quickly if you dont ground it from the post on the rear (not sure why it wasn't done at the factory) but when I took mine to the IH dealer, that was the 1st thing the mechanic did and it charged fine after that

That's exactly what I bought for 193.00, which Kenworth dealer did you get it from? That's a great price.

New Stanton, PA. Exit 57 of I-70. Right by PA Pike exit 75.
