Nitrogen is what they put in aircraft tires. The Molecules are bigger than air molecules and don't expand and contract near as much. Air will allow the temp of the tire to rise in warm weather, nitorgen allows for a more uniform overall temperature. When rubber expands and contracts it wears out faster.
With regard to the molecule size: Think if it like this:
Air = filling your tires with grain of sand size molecules.
Nitrogen is like filling your tires with golfball size molecules. Tires with air lose air pressure over time. Nitrogen filled tires don't lose air pressure over time nearly as much because the molecules, along with the special valve stems, don't escape and remain in your tires.
I checked the "air" pressure last month in my steers and it was 105. 3 Months ago it was 103
You can mix regular air with nitrogen so you can equalize your pressure on the road.
BTW I don't own stock in any nitrogen company...just found a better way to run my truck's tires and save money...
