Double coin tires
For those interested in double coin tires..some of Love's travel centers are starting to stock them. I was at the loves at mm 322 off i-65 in AL. they had tires on display outside. they looked knee deep in tall rubber. great prices too. they had a new facility there to install. I have never seen double coin before, but have heard of them.

Do you recall prices?
|
$ 229.00 each for virgin trailer tires, if I remember correctly. I am sure of that price, just not sure if that was trailer or drives. I do know that they had about 5 on display & all had thick rubber on them. I was in a hurry & did not spend time to write the prices down. I live close to the store, so I knew it would not be a problem to stop back in again. my runs( when I have them) go right past there. I guess one could call there & get price's too. I also did not see if the price included, trade in or mount, e.t.c. I know the last tires I bought were from the same maker as double coin, called dynatrac. bought 2 for the trailer. cost $579.00 I took tires with me & mounted myself. the double coin, had deeper rubber than dynatrac. from what reviews I read online about doublecoin, they seen to be a good tire for a good price.

I have been using Double Coin for the last 2 or 3 years. I am very pleased with the wear that I have gotten out of my drives. I recently put 2 on my step deck. I am anxious to see how they do with a spread axle. I buy mine from a local distributor. It is good to hear that others are beginning to carry them. Some of these other brands are way too expensive, even at national discounts.

I was also interested in the Double Coin tires I saw at Loves. I run from Denver to LA and back and pass several Loves TS along the way ( I go the southern route through Albuquerque)
Spoke to my shop foreman- he has seen the tires but has no input on them. Just a quick side note on tires: Since October 2008 I have been running with Nitrogen in all my tires, steers to trailer. My Michelin steers look near new and my drives show slight wear. If you have the opportunity to have your tire person deflate and reinflate with nitrogen it's worth it. my .02 Robert |
Why would you use nitrogen in your tires?
|
Nitrogen doesn't run as hot and because the molecules are larger there is less seepage. They are particularly good if you run between extreme climates. For instance, I run from Canada to both north and south California. The Nitro wares better and provides me with the sanctity that I can be a little more relaxed with checking the pressure.
|
Nitrogen is very good at keeping tire pressure the same, no matter what the temp. but it is too expensive. i.m.o. nitrogen is also used in double pane house window's. they fill the space between the 2 glass with nitrogen & it could be 10 degrees outside & if you put your hand on inside of window it does not transmit the outside temp, cause the nitrogen stays accurately the same temp, & will not let the cold air transport itself thru the nitrogen.

i had a customer unload the other day with nitrogen, i had a whole load of compressed nitrogen in my trailer, i not sure what the amount was but it seemed a shame to let it bleed off in the air. is this against the law? if so, just disregard this question, i was never here.
