thats becuse they can do junk cheaper than quality unfortunately. I might not have been a big j fan but I did like their drivers lounges, and their restaurant from time to time. Heh, even their pizza from time to time

I do not like these types of mergers either.
I remember how shocked I was to learn that the Iowa 80 was a TA! I got a cold chill when TA bought Petro. I tend to like Pilot because their showers are generally newer and standardized, but their parking generally sucks. My brother only goes to Pilot for the crushed ice. I have always seen Flying J as The Independent one. I wonder what will happen to it now...

Some of them are already taking Comcheck. I would no longer expect the lower prices from Flying J. I have noticed since the buyout that their prices pretty much reflect that of Pilot.

I don't mind Denny's. I do like their grand slam. I don't like all the fast food restaurants that I anticipate them putting in all the Flying J's. I plan on spending more of my money with the independents. The food is better as is the service. And prices are generally less than with the big chains. I need a more balanced food choice.

This makes me glad I'm not OTR anymore! I loved to stop at a J and get a $1.99 PB&J and a drink or if it was sunday then a Buffet(depending on the location) and most of the time They had good sized lots to park in. I never liked the pilots except for the crushed Ice, 2 for 2$ hot dogs and that was about it. Almost everyone I've been in has the worst designed lot
The J in SLC on SR201 used to have one of the best little diners ever, but the actual T/S and the lot were horrendous! But then they upgraded the lot and store and put in their chain restaraunt and lost the diner Give a little to get a little. Are they still gonna keep the refinery running here in SLC(well actually woods cross)

The pilots never had good driver facilities because that's what the big fleets want. They want their drivers to get fuel, some nasty food at the fast food joint, and keep rolling. The flying j's always marketed more towards the o/o or independent. That will change.
I don't get a discount at the FJ's though, but usually 4 cents per gallon at the pilot. Pilot is almost always cheaper for me.

You can get the cash price and a monthly discount at the Flying J if you use their PDCA card. There is a minimum amount of fuel you need to purchase to qualify for the fuel discount. As far as I know they will keep their refinery business separate from the stores. At least that is what I have been told.

I try to eat vegetables at least once a day. I would expect that with these new changes Pilot is making to the Flying J's that more drivers will start to eat out of their trucks. I don't care for Wendy's. If I eat fast food I prefer something like Subway where I can at least get some fresh vegetables. The quality of meats that they use in McDonald's and some of the other fast food restaurants is not the best. If you eat fast food all the time it will affect your health. If I get an omelet at Flying J then I usually substitute fruit for hash browns. It is much more of a balanced diet.

Most everyone is going to 'fast-food'. I reckon since the small percentage of drivers are in a hurry to eat-and-run, they think everyone is that way.
