Default Is this area legal to be in with a 53 foot trailer and a sleeper truck?

3rd ave and butler st, new york city, new york - Google Maps

My dad delivered just south of that location, had to stop at the bus stop and deliver by hand around the corner.

Apparently this may be a regular stop. Should they hire an outside company to deliver? He doesn't want to go back.

So illegal everywhere except the interstates right?

He said there was a guy in a NYC outfit that stopped him at the exit he took, but allowed him to continue.

That's what we've been doing, and why I'm asking on here.

Company I'm with deals with a company in Carlstadt, NJ to take care of places like that. We don't have to go in there. Just drop it off at the dock with them, and they take it from there.

I go across the G Dubb bridge and run Broadway about 5 miles down to 34th street frequently ( Jacob Javitz Convention Center). I hear you can get a ticket for it, but I zoom past cops the whole route.

Please note, I do this at around 2-4am, because it is hectic down there. But I've done Brooklyn and double parked in manhattan. I think Ive gotten lucky.

My Dad once said something about it being legal if it is a full trailer load, but he was referring to HHG, so a freight commodity may be another story.

Can you give me their contact info? Would they hand deliver kitchen cabinets?

The problem with that link is it makes it seem you can basically go anywhere with a full length commercial vehicle. Which we all know you can't. Nowhere does it say size restrictions.

I don't have a phone number, but I can tell you how to get there.

From I-80, take 17 south (exit 64) to Moonache Ave east. At the light for Washington Ave, make a right. Should be the second available street to the right, Kero Road, and they are about half a block or so on the left.

Can't tell you about whether they will hand deliver cabinets or not. I also do not have a phone number. I simply get told to drop it off at Carlstadt, NJ and I know where I'm going. They do dry, chilled, and frozen.

If you're in the area, and have a couple of minutes, stop in and talk to them. See what kind of a deal you can make. For me, it's not my choice to use them or not. It's the company that makes those arrangements.

Default NYC and 53ft trailers

NYC Law States its illegal for a 53ft trailer to enter the city of Manhatten, but that is almost impossible with every company running 53ft trailers.
You can enter NYC with a 53ft, just be careful with every turn. Its so tight. I run into the city alot and have never had a problem with NYPD. You can unload on the streets blocking one or two lanes, as long as your not there allday. NYPD understands you have a job to do, Just do it and get out of dodge.

Quick story...... I was unloading in brooklyn one day and a SWIFT(not picking on SWIFT, true story) truck comes down the street, he decides he wants to make a right turn. Well needless to say he made it , but his tail crushed a car that was sitting on the corner in front of the building I was delivering too. It was the owners car, Nice Jaguar XJ. Back seat was now in the front and the trunk was in the back seat. Hilarious!!!!!

Funny thing is NYPD was sitting across the street on the corner, saw the whole thing. When she came over, all she could do was laugh. She said he knows he can't park there.

Swift driver asked her what should he do? She told him have a nice day sir, he asked again, she told him have a nice day. I looked @ her and with a BIG SMILE on her face, she laughed and said I didn't see anything have a nice day Swift.

Needless to say she is one of my best freinds now and we laugh about that story all the time. I asked her why she didn't do anything and she said the owner knows he's not allowed to park on that corner, he made his own "No parking sign" and placed it on the pole. So her reaction was he deserves it. Was only a matter of time before something happened.

So with that said just be careful in NYC, Most of the time you can deliver and get out with out getting a ticket ,but it is the law. So if you get a ticket just hand it to your company becuase I'm sure they know 53ft trailers are not allowed. I doubt NYPD will bother you.
