She stated that they were having the same issues with their pipelines, that the ULSD was "stripping" them of residue, and acting almost as a solvent. At that time, there were many drivers who were swearing that putting used engine oil was "adding lubricity" to the fuel. She was shocked to hear this, and empathetically stated that they were likely recreating the problem over and over.
Got it Rev. Interesting.............

The majority of my diesel loads are pulled from 2 terminals. At the first, the ULSD still has the greenish tint that we are all so used to with diesel fuel. At the second, the ULSD is just as clear as water. I had never heard about the concerns over plugged filters before, except with the bio-diesel blends.

The company that I previously worked for installed a piping system that allowed us easier access for transferring bio-diesel from the warehouse to our tankers. By the end of that very same day, the bio-diesel had completely eroded/dissolved all of the 'caulking' type sealant that they had used on the pipe threadings and we had bio-diesel everywhere. Luckily, that was my next to last day with that company. It would be interesting to know what type of sealant they eventually had to use to contain that stuff. That has always made me wonder what effect bio-diesel must have on engine components such as seals............

I can tell you from working with straight bio-diesel that it is some nasty stuff. Bio-diesel uncut will eat through Goodyear high pressure transfer hoses that we use in the fuel industry. It will eat the bottoms off of your boots. If it gets on your skin, it is similar to the sensation of battery acid on the skin. It burns and burns and keeps spreading as you touch your face, arms ummm you get the idea.

Rough stuff that bio-diesel. I'm just glad that I don't have to handle it anymore.
Something I have learned the last year or so....two of the main ingredients for bio-diesel are sulfuric acid and sodium methelate. Both will peel your hide given the chance. Do you suppose some "bio-fuel refiners" are less cautious during their blending than others???

And I don't do that on a regular basis any more. I just change my oil every 15,000 miles. Personally, I think that putting in additives is a waste of my money. I had one driver who tried some Lucas a few times in that truck. I don't recall seeing any improvement in fuel mileage or performance. I did notice it costing more for a fill up using the additives. The only time I will add additives is when I have water in my tanks. That rarely happens.

I gotta admit..I use Lucas oil additive each service. I've found that I only add a gallon of oil about 2300 miles before the oil change. I have 950,000 miles on the C-15. I'm also using Lucas additive foe the fuel whenever I fill with bio-diesel. The engine runs better with it than without it.

ulsd has alot less lubricity then lsd, an additive for injector and upper cylinder lubrication is never a bad idea.

Just fueled at the Road Ranger in Champaign, IL tonight and it stated on the pump "20% Bio-Diesel Blend" not 2% as you stated.... I dunno?

I've begun adding bacon grease to my fuel to increase lubricity. It works quite nicely with the laundry detergent I use to clean my injectors.

Animal fat (bacon grease), thats one of the main ingredients of bio-diesel too.

That's it. I'm changing to KY Jelly.

And I just started using cherry ICEE's to top off my coolant. The guy at the truck stop gave me a weird look when I bought 5 gallons of the stuff.
