I guess I showed those bastards not hauling their cheap freight. Ya right.

Twice in the last two weeks, I had offers to move equipment for $1500. Both times I said I needed $2200. No go. So I called back a day later and they said OK to the $2200. The third time they called and offered the $2200 right from the start. Same broker.

As far as posting trucks is concerned, I don't really get that many ridiculous calls from posting on DATconnect. I have recieved many more desperate calls from brokers than I have cheap calls.

Steve, keep in mind the tolls also. I spend at least $500 a week going easy. If I ran hard it would be even more. Buffalo and Rochester are areas to consider. It will keep you out of the $hit hole that I run through everyday. And yes, real men run the Northeast. I might be singing a different tune when I move to GA. I move in one year. I closed on my house sale yesterday. I am lucky I sold in this crap market. It only took 3 weeks to sell. I guess I am a good landscaper

By the way, my folks have a Villa for sale in Daytona. Let me know when your ready to buy so I can collect the broker fee. 8)

And wait a minute, I'm a real man!!! I drive the NorthEast. Oops, maybe not. I take I90 the whole way from NH until I'm free......I'm a wimp.

I know Daytona and Port Orange like the back of my hand! I'll never buy another house again. Renting is the way to go for me. I can pick up and move anytime I want.

Thanks for the data. It's nice to have more independents chiming in. When you say you'll dead head to a better location the next day, how far will you go and how do you determine which direction to go in? I've been in that predicament many times.

We never post our trucks as available. If my two normal brokers do not have anything, we go to the board and pick and choose. This gives us more control.

No, it's not profit after expenses and wages. It costs me $1.01 to run my truck alone and the best paying loads all week were $1.50.

Now seriously Diesel, what should I have done? I sat for 4 days making nothing and those loads all moved including the trash loads for $.90 cents per mile.

Wait. Maybe a light just got turned on.

If I took a load to Chicago for $1.50 per mile I would make $951 and after fuel that would leave me with $496. Chances are this would eat up almost 2 days doing that load.

If I humped it out to Chicago I would get 9mpg and a fuel cost of $288. It would take me a day to drive and I could load up in the morning.

Or, I could move to Chicago. I'd probably get stabbed or that other driver I know on this board would be over my house bugging me all the time. Bad idea.

Ya know. I think I just had an epivaney, efifany, elephante or what ever that word is. When I'm home and planning on heading out on a Monday I should drive to Chicago or close to it on Sunday.

Yes, your right BUT.....I've gotten a call maybe 5 times in the past at 4 in the afternoon with a broker out of breath, in a panic and talking fast and the last words out of his mouth is a GREAT rate.

I was in this little run down town in the boonies in Colorado parked next to a Walmart. No nothing for hundreds and hundreds of miles. Then I got a call to move an aluminum poll for a radar array. It was 30' feet long and weighed nothing and they called UPS to pick it up. Ya, right, let me just have it stick out the back 25'.

So Rank. When you call about a load and they don't bite do you call them again the next day all the time like that? I always thought after you called them once they would hold their ground?

I know they don't write down your number and call you back, that's for sure.
