Locking fuel caps
I currently have a 98 Volvo with 2 100?gallon tanks...so I need a way to lock the tanks. Volvo sold some caps that didn't lock properly, and I tried another from a third party place and it didn't work either.
Another solution I read is to weld a steel gate over the cap and padlock that, but that would require draining the tanks etc. Anyone out there bothering to lockup their fuel?

There are many different sized of locking fuel caps. Volvo should be able to fix you up with your vin number. If not, then I would check with some of the truck stops and see if they may have something that would work. If there is a Truck Pro or Fleet Pride parts store near you they should have one that will work.

What about the things that you put in the fuel fillers that keep people from siphoning out your fuel? It doesn't stop the problem totaly but it increases your protection anyway.

I bought my locking caps from www.robond.com. It's a company in Quebec Canada and though they're not cheap ($250 for the pair), they are way better than the stuff you can buy at a truckstop. The main advantage is they use a rubber cap on top of the key slot so it stays clean in bad weather. I'm very happy with them. Call them and they'll tell you the size you need. Most tanks have standards size inlet openings.

The ones I ordered from the Volvo dealer didn't work (couldn't get the key out when turned, and they only have a gripping piece of steel that pivots) that isn't too terribly strong.

I bought a couple of things that slide into the fuel hole but have these wings that once pushed in that thing isn't coming out. They can't get a siphon hose in the tank after that. It only cost $30 and you get the protection and don't have to worry about losing keys.
I don't know the name of them but I got them from the Carrier dealer.
