Realistically, the truck is 7 years old and has ran a tad under 80K a year. Many hhg trucks do 60K a year, so it is possible its been working.

Or ran hard a few years by a team then sat

If I did 60K a year when I was doing HHG, I would have shot myself.

Rebuilding an older engine can get expensive fast. You can end up spending much more than 30k due to parts failing prematurely within a 3-year period.
The rebuilds I know of have come nowhere near that cost. Most of the parts are new so I don't know why they'd be failing prematurely. I suppose it all depends on who does the rebuild and whether it was done right from the outset. I'm not talking about a simple $8000 in-frame though.

Actually the truck could be over 8 years old.

My friend just had his 2001 Freighliner rebuilt for 12K. That included new injectors, turbo etc.

And we may be in a surpressed market but down here (South Florida) they are just exporting them. I just bought another one and there wasn't much to choose from. But I'm happy with what I'm getting.

I was in the Ryder fleet sales office and they had a map on the wall with pins in all the countries they are selling to, plenty of pins on the wall.

maybe you should talk to a dependable truck mechanic that is familiar with the auto shift & get an estimate on a rebuild & consider that cost in deciding the price you would pay for truck.
