stopped by the J in Barstow last week- They had a shelf stacked with those plastic tube hand-siphons. WTH?? They could try to make it a little tougher on the Zoomers...

maybe the truck stop does this for the guys who gets his fuel stolen. the victom can buy the siphon hose & a fuel container to get some fuel from another trucker if he has not enough to get truck started to get to fuel pump. bedides most thieves would probably have their burgulary tools already with them.

Not an OO yet, just getting some info from this forum but when I got up this morning at the J's in Denver, my pass side fuel cap was off and I was empty on that side.
Asshole was quite, I slept right through it.

i used to fuel at end of shift, but now i fuel at the beginning. seems to me that the thieves are hitting full tanks. perhaps lying in wait watching truckers filling their tanks? always seems to be somebody hanging around the fuel islands.

Wow! this is going to get worst.. I'm in Pittsburgh PA and another driver told me there Drilling holes in the bottom of fuel tanks now because of locks.. man I have no idea what I could do to stop them. I can imagine people are getting desperate and fuel is going to go higher..
be safe everyone

A little common sense goes a long way. If you think that a situation doesn't seem right,...then go with your instincts.
I had a fellow approach me while I was getting ready to go into the truckstop for a shower, and he caught me as soon as I opened my door, he saw I had my shower pack. I suspected that there was some strange behavior, and went inside to ask the TA if they had parking lot video cameras,...they said no,...I walked out to my truck and left.
Maybe I was being a spaz,...but then again maybe I wasn't. I don't leave the door open to be taken advantage of.
Where you park has a great deal to do with if you get robbed,...like you said,..be careful.

I couldn't get to the article- link worked but looks like they are working on the site or something.
We have a mobile DVR with external cameras mounted on the mirrors that face backward (they look down the sides of the truck). Now the DVR and cameras are a bit pricey, but even if you put up dummy cameras and put a decal back by the fuel tanks saying "you are on camera" or "you are being filmed" might ward of would-be diesel dummies.
I think we've had fuel stolen though. Couldn't prove it (cameras were shut off- not on purpose- oops). That will really tick you off.

stolen fuel
Look folks a little common sense goes a long way, 1. when you stop for the day do not fuel till the following morning 2. stay off the back row and only park in well lighted areas, theives hate to be seen 3. do NOT buy locking fuel caps a honest person is not who you have to worry about and a locked fuel cap will not stop a theif, a 1/2" peice of black iron with a sharp point on it will going thru a fuel tank like a hot knife thru butter. It is like homeland security we all need to be nosey and watch out for each other. to many drivers look the other way thinking that it not their problem, when it is in fact all of our problem. be safe
