What can we do about these Diesel prices????
SubscribeHere's what gets me with these diesel prices. Price per barrel of crude goes up 2.00 the next morning price per gallon goes up 10 or 15 cents. Price per barrel drops over a two day period from 111 to 104, and the price per gallon doesn't drop. I'm going to have to throw a flag for un-sportsman like, you can't have it both ways. That's also how you know that you're getting f'ed!
Makes me wanna throw my hammer through the price sign.

NOTHING can STOP supply and demand.
Where does 'a gorilla sleep?'
The solution is 2 run it like a biz not a truck (ego?) show.
Five to 10 percent of owner-operators (though most likely, motor carriers) have done O.K. in the past, R doing O.K. RIGHT NOW, --AND will ALWAYS do O.K.
Why not learn from them instead of stubbornly TRYING 2 do it YOUR way.
God Bless

Enlighten us on what we aren't learning from them. Well, just the 5-10%, the 90-95% bottom feeders I can do without.

....driving a 4.5 mpg hoods versus 7 - 7.5 mpg 'modified' aeros. If U failed math you'll fail this one!
....driving at WARP speed. If U failed physics U'll (hey is there such a thing as shorthand 4 the typed word?) drive like an *****.
....taking a brokers FIRST quote. If you haven't read ANY book on negotiation UR running 4 fuel $!
....squandering 'in the good times' without a thought in UR mind about the inevitable DIPS/unexpected.
...hey, lets others add to 'Z' list. .I'm not (or have the time) throwing all my experiences and RESEARCH *HERE.*
- and OBVIOUSLY the professionals R't going '2 hand it 2 U in a silver platter!' -The best ones R 'secrets of the trade' U ain't gonna git these ones without 'paying the price.'

A 'hood that's running properly and driven properly is not getting 4.5 mpg pulling regular freight. Maybe a 1 mpg difference...maybe. If you want to drive a 'hood and you can't afford that difference, you're not making any money anyway.
As far as all the research you've done, I've seen your website; I wouldn't be putting much stock in any of your so-called research or expertise. All you do is regurgitate everything you can find that jives with what you think is right. Nevermind that in the real world, not much of it boils down like you claim. What is it you do again?

The funny thing about this type of freight is that the rates ALWAYS go up when they need to move it.
...and what excactly did U expect? --4 the laws (of supply & demand) to bend '4 some?'The funny thing about this type of freight is that the rates ALWAYS go up when they need to move it.
What would U do in a brokers shoes in this situation when they have ALL these 'going hungry' truckers PRAYING at his/her feet 2 get that particular load?

Sad,isn't it? You would think these idiots would offer a fair rate to carriers that provided them with a good service in other areas and not take advantage of them when they get in a bad area. I have the same philosophy with the ridiculous 1.00pm or less freight.
Would U do it 4 a broker IF it was 'the other way around?' These dudes are far from idiots!Sad,isn't it? Last month a broker that had a cheap load out of TX wouldn't budge on his rate but was practically begging me to take a load when I was in KS. When I told him my rate he about fell out of his chair.

(back to diesel price topic)
At what price will you consider driving for a company?
Now that the price is coming down due to speculators taking profits in the commodities market from crude oil and heating oil futures, do you think anything except a war could boost prices up beyond $4.00 per gallon?
On 3/20/08 I saw $4.09 posted for diesel at the Flying J in St. Louis.
Crude oil above $100.00 a barrel should be harder to see again shouldn't it?
