Default Insurance for new CDL

I know this has been asked and answered before here, but I just spent the last 2 hours unsuccessfully trying to find the threads, so...

Can anyone recommend an insurance company, other than Progressive, that will write liability/cargo insurance for an owner operator with less than one year of CDL experience?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Not going to happen these days.... Go work for a carrier and gain 2 years experience first.

I got my CDL in september and although you already mentioned Progressive , they wrote me for liability and Canal out of Greenville SC wrote my Cargo. I got 1000000 from Progressive for 3500.00 and 100000 cargo from Canal for 2900.00 . Progressive was the only one I could find that wrote for a new driver as was Canal . There may be others but I found Progressive right off the bat and it took a bit longer to find Canal so i didn't look any further. The Progressive quote could have been lower but I opted for 1000000 instead of the minimum 750000 and I also got a Garage keepers for around 600.00 included in the 3500.00 price. I had to have this ( garage keepers ) because Copart whom I am going to be hauling for required it.

If the state requires you to have insurance they must make it available. It's called Assigned Risk.

Darin...you got your CDL in Sept....that's 2007 I assume

And with only a few months experience you got quotes for $3500/yr ($1M liability-Progressive) and $2900/yr (100K cargo-Canal)??

Those are great quotes for a newbie!!! Wow!! Am I missing something?

Is this for 48 states? No radius restriction?

geomon, yes that is true . As a matter of fact I really have no experience
because I got CDL went to maverick for 10 days and left. I was shocked and pleased at the same time when I first got the quote from Progressive.
From what all I had heard from others , it was going to be impossible
or very expensive . The lady said that I had a good driving record and excellent credit. I asked her why would credit matter and she said they look at the character of the applicant. I was told the exact same thing
by the agent that wrote my cargo. Now to further explain , I have a
4 car rollback which is med duty as you know but I was quoted about the same on a freightliner 5 pac which was a class 8 truck . If I would have gotten a truck and trailer I would have been limited to 500 miles
(was 300 but they just raised it ) and was told this was their policy concerning Kentucky so not sure about other states. They consider a truck and trailer more of a risk unless it is a bumper pull (don't ask me why). So yes I can go all 48 states.

SteveBooth also went with Progressive to start... He also had clear title to a truck and trailer along with a few pesos and most likely excellent credit.
