Its hard to say my costs/mile as a leased o/o doing hhg. Since revenue is more important than miles, its hard to gauge CPM. But my costs are

License plates (annually) $1700 ($141.66mo)
Workmans Comp $440/mo
Bobtail $35/mo
PLPD varies from 3-500/mo (% of linehaul)
Truck payment $2250mo
Insurance is $225/mo
My fuel cost is 68cpm
Cell phone $150 (qualcomm in phone)
*the workmans comp is something freight haulers don't need, including a policy for lumpers

Add that up its about $3700/mo before I fuel. I run and average of 8200 mi/mo. Divide that up amongst the miles and my fixed costs of about 45cpm. Add fuel @ 68cpm and 5cpm for maintenance and I sit at about $1.18/mi.

Keep in mind 8200 mi/mo isn't much. Speard that over 9 or 10K miles and the CPM drops drmatically. If I ran 10K miles I'd be at 37cpm for truck, 68cpm for fuel and 5cpm for maintenance, I'm at $1.10/mi.

 

Freight haulers have to carry workman's comp policies on themselves at many carriers, if not all. They just don't need to carry policies on their labor.

 

It cost us .90/miles. This includes fixed and variable cost.
