Default Trail King trailers

What is anybodys opinion on Trail King steps. Was looking to buy a Fontaine, but a salesman that I talked to yesterday was pushing Trail King or Doonan. He also sells Fontaine and Transcraft. I know the Doonan will be the priciest one. Would really like to get peoples' opinions on any brand since there are so many. The only experience I have is with Great Dane and some Strict van products. Thanks.

I bought a Transcraft step deck 2 years ago. I looked at Trail King and Doonan, among others. I thought that both Trail King and Doonan were over priced. I think I got more for my money with the Transcraft.

That's what I thought. I got a price for a 2007 51' Fontaine combo step with locks and steel wheels, no boxes for $31,900 inc. FET. The other dealer quoted $35,500 for a new Trail King, all steel 51' step, alum wheels, alum rub rail, locks, no boxes. I contacted another Transcraft dealer twice but have since not rec. a quote or return call. I would really like to buy locally regarding service issues, but I would travel to save a considrable amount. Was interested in looking at a DTL 2100. This is the one with the beavertail and flips, but this is totally different than the trailers I have spec'ed so far.

There usually isn't much to do to a new trailer. You can take it to any dealer and they can handle any warranty issues. I prefer dealing with local people, but that isn't always possible. I saved about $2,000 by buying my Transcraft 100 miles away.

Got a call from a salesman yesterday regarding a 2004 DTL2100 steel 51' step with cont. locks, boxes, outside alum, led, wood deck, would come with new tires for $20,900. It seems like a good price, but I really have nothing to compare it with. Used is used and you have to take them where you find them. At least new I can compare apples to apples. The guy called me three times on Friday. Must be hot to sell something by the end of the year. I told him repeatedly nothing would be bought till Jan. I haven't seen the pictures yet, but he said with new tires it would be a "10".

I bought mine new in 2005. I paid $30,000 for it and it is a 53'. It sounds like a good deal on that 2004 if it is in good shape.
