I almost went up thriugh Monument Valley to get here,..but being 14'6" high,...I decided to stay on the interstate's.
My trailer has a dump valve like lever on the side near the old broken weight gauge. I found out today when I plumbed my trailer on-board scale that it is a shut off for the old leaking weight gauge on the trailer.
I bypassed it and ran mt 1/4" airline up to the quick disconnects for my incab scale. Now I finally have that system working.
I also took off my entire ehaust system from the turbo back and replaced it with nice new non-leaking pipes,...now I can actually idle without leaving the windows open 2".
OH,..I almost forgot,...I got DOTed in Cali., and I'm happy to say that my truck and paperwork passed the Cali./ DOT test,...I had 2 brakes out of adjustment,...right front, and trailer left/front/tandem,...a little turn of my wrench (and I mean like 1/4 turn,..sheesh,..guess he had to get me for something :? ) and off I went.
I unload in the Fri. a.m.,...then off to North New Mexico (161 mile dh) to pick up a load 1,000lbs going to SLC for $2,000 on 500 loaded miles.
The Cali. load fell through,...bummer guess I'll just "have" to take this OK paying load to SLC instead

Is 14' - 6" legal out there or did you permit that?

The DOT were OK with that? I mean, they didn't want a "qualified air brake guy to do that?"

Apparantly 14'6" is OK out on this side of the Rockies, they said they do this exact run 10 times a year,...I would have felt better if it was on a step,...but who am I to argue,...I questioned it and they said it was a go.
I dh'ed 215 miles for this load,....I would have been pretty mad if it turned out to be a no go.
The lowest overpass I went under was 15'1".

The DOT officer gave me the choice,...do it myself, or call a tech., so I did it myself,...and keep in mind,..they were barely out, it took me less than a minute to do both of them,...he rechecked it and sent me on my way.

Well, from what I see on the Cali website, 13 foot 11 is ok, but 14 is over. Just because they say they do the run 10 times a year don't always believe what they say. Only state I noticed had a weird rule for over 13-6 was Florida and it was only for car haulers.

Wish I could go out west some......

Chris

I bet the tank company gave DH special directions for getting to Grand Junction, without passing any scales!

It would be a lot of extra miles, but do-able.

Or..DH had a pilot car and OH permit's.

However..I'm betting that DH was only about 13' 9". That is only an 8 foot tank.

They probably do....but judging from the other replies, I'd say they do it with permits. You can be sure the broker charged the shipper as though it as a permitted OD load. Anyway, good for you for not being afraid of the OD stuff, but next time better call the numbers in the front of the Rand McNally to check the laws in each state.

That's pretty cool. I don't recall ever getting that option in the Neast.

Doghouse, was that you parked on the side of the road into the FlyingJ 19 miles north of Bakersfield on the night of the 27/28th? It was raining at 2am, when I rolled out, and glanced over at the string of trucks bumper to bumper because the lot was full up. I didnt get a good look, but looked like you about 4 trucks north of the intersection? I glanced back and saw this truck-do-minium, but didnt want to wake you up.

I was near home, returning from Mission TX.

Orange,
That wasn't me in Bakersfield, I was sleeping in Fruita at that day/time.

On The tank height,..I wish I had payed closer attention to the actual height. The guy who loaded me said it was 14'5", and after unloading it I measured it to be 8'6" (because of the pipes that stick out of the top) so that brings me to 158" total (my trailer is 56"),...which is 13'1", and it sure looked higher than a 13'6" van,...but looks can be deceiving,...I will consider myself lucky to have pulled that one without any problems,...and double check the next one that seems too big.

The scale was near Castaic Northbound on I-5, the guy was real decent,...maybe I got lucky on that as well,..then lets add the $4.00per mile 8,500lb run from Waterflow N.M. to Salt Lake City.
Now lets see what I can get to move out of SLC!!
