This is a real problem, but dont mention FSC to them just put it in your rate and see if they will play. A large insulation shipper just changed their FSC to start at $2.50 per gallon instead of $1.25 per gallon. Their rates are better than good, but now you take it in the shorts on FSC. Either you haul it or you dont.

If you run your authority, don't worry about the fsc. Instead, concentrate on getting a good rate. I don't concern myself with the fsc as long as I am getting a decent rate. The real problem with the fsc is that it isn't necessary unless you are running for cheap rates. It can help with the sharp spikes in fuel costs, but for the most part, if you are getting a good rate the fsc is secondary. On the other hand, the shipper or broker feels that they are paying a cheaper rate if the fsc is broken out. It is only a game they play.

That would be like if you had a failing restaurant and expected McDonalds to shut down in support of your poor business decisions, it ain't going to happen.

IMHO, a thinning of the herd would be a good start to getting rates back up to where they should be.
You can tell right away who drives fuel-wasting (shoe box) Peterbilts and want the consumer to pay for their fuel-hogs/play toys.

Trucking is a business not a truck show to show-off.
