Fixed.

 

It seems to be happening in other states as well,just searching for info on retrofit programs for CA some other states popped up. Alot of people are in panic mode and others dont seem to care or have the attitude that no way they are giving up their trucks. I did speak to a person at CARB and they said that they are open to input from people in the industry because they dont know how it will impact us making a living. He also said that they are under funded and under staffed so dont expect the hammer to drop right away. So I am just going to keep working and fly under the radar unless I get caught in a smoke test. I imagine by 2010 my 79 will be worth nothing in CA.

 

 

The problem is, our trucks contribute massively to smog.

Catalytic convertors in gasoline engines take care of 99% of the smog forming NOx. They do not have a PM problem.

Those same convertors do very little in comparison on our trucks.

I think I read a study somewhere that attributed 80% of smog forming substances(NOx and PM) to heavy trucks.

Here-Here!!! Make a 25 mile zone like they used to have for the Mexican trucks!!! Let the denizens of LA and Frisco come out to the border areas for their merchandize!!!

 

what he said. this is bs!! since i learned that you'd better wash your truck before entering cali or you'll get a dot insp. i decided that anyone who needed me to move anything into or out of cali was going to need to meet me inside the border of a neighboring state.
it has to be them trying to squeeze us all out to make room for the mexican trucks. jb, schneider and the lot will have a bunch of 5.00 drivers running the road. you watch. in shiny new trucks!!!!

 

Well Steve if thats the way it goes down then I'LL be out of bussiness if it spreads to the other states !!! I can live with-out Calif but if it spreads I'LL be finished. What about all those boys in Calif that have all those old chromed up trucks . Old Diamond Rieos n Macks n Kenworth Pete ect ect ect ??? I've seen some really really old ones late 50's n early sixty's n such !!! A lot of them pull containers out of the ports n such. Haul hay with those single axle cab-overs ect ect !!! My truck can't be compliant with 2007 standards with-out putting a 2007 engine in it ???

 

It would only affect other states if they adopted CARB standards. Otherwise they have to abide by the regulations set forth by the EPA. That's why the Federal Government needs to step in and yank the CARB exemption, or at least rule that other states that have adopted CARB must now surrender control to the Feds, or at the very minimum, rule that no other states can adopt CARB. CARB was created to deal with the unique situation in southern california that lead to the severe smog in Los Angeles. Those problems do not exist in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Vermont, the 4 other states who have adopted CARB standards. CARB has really become irrelevant as modern technology has made requiring stricter emissions in California rather obsolete. It's more of a bureaucracy and red tape nightmare than an effective organization.
