Ya, and the story about the Dart O/O making $50,xxx per year really won my heart. I make that much being home every day or every other day driving a sweet ass company Pete.

50k a year o/o? LOL!

How much is their current fuel surcharge? Are there any bonuses above the 91 cpm?

Why are you surprised Allan?
After all said and done, a lot of O/O don't make even that.
As the matter of fact, i believe, that's above national "official" average...

No not surprised. If an o/o doesn't make at least 50k he's doing something seriously wrong.

But 50k in an advertisement as if it's some huge accomplishment. Wow. THAT surprises me.

Great point!!! If a company driver (with some experience) can make $40-$50K per year with NO financial risk for equipment then an O/O should make more than that as compensation for the financial RISK and DEPRECIATION that he/she takes on by owning and operating the equipment. And stating that it's some great accomplishment to make that much as an O/O should be a warning flag. It's too bad more people don't look at it that way.

That's a one point of viewing on an issue. But rewards could be not only monetary.
For example;- Let's say I'm making the same 50 grand. But......
I work when i want, where i want, and how i want.
I work on equipment i want.
And last, but not least, I'm home when i want, and for how long i want (or can afford ).
But of course, to achieve those points, you got to be efficient... 8)

That's the business finance way of looking at it.

And you're right that there's a second "quality of life" way of looking at it as well. And if you CAN attain all that you mention then you've hit that goal that defines the dream of being an O/O. But you better factor in or, at worst case, be aware of those costs and risks as well otherwise that dream may turn to a money sucking nightmare

Note: o/o's here may understand a bit better than the co drivers
