Cam, when Flying J started out they had a few franchise stores. Those still take Comdata. The company stores do not. There is a franchise store in Washington, Wyoming and Idaho that will still take Comdata. It seems like there are a few others. I doubt if there are half a dozen franchisees right now. They operate pretty much as they see fit. It is funny. Flying J wants all these other companies to cater to them but don't seem to want to cater to those who helped build their company. The truck drivers. :? I think the best thing to do is express your dissatisfaction with your pocketbook. Find another fuel source that is more trucker friendly. Remember, there are still some good mom and pop truck stops. Food is usually better as is the service. Sometimes you can get about as good a price on the fuel, sometimes not. I like the idea of doing business with independents. Small business built this country. Keep in mind that every business started as a small business. 8)

Yeah, but those are the extremes. Most fall between $0.08 and $0.15 per gallon.

Name a T/A, and I'll tell ya what my discount is there currently.

We too get a 40 cents per gallon discount in Portland but I checked all the TA's on my trip to Denver- practically nothing, I'll fuel at the J.

The thing to remember about buying truck fuel in Oregon, they do not include TAXES in the price of fuel. Oregon requires a monthly mileage statement from each Carrier that operates on their roads, with a check for the appropriate amount of taxes.

When you guys are talking about getting discounts at TA and the like, ... well... how do you do it? Are you leased on to a big company that gets a discount at the TA?

I am a one-man show. One truck, one trailer, my own authority. I don't like to carry a lot of cash. With Visa, I just whip in, fuel, and go. Once a month, I go on my credit card website and transfer funds from my checking to cover my bill. I put EVERYTHING on my credit card. Meals, tools, fuel, anything I can. On fuel, dining out, home repairs (including Harbor Freight, Home Depot, and others), I get THREE PERCENT BACK. Doesn't sound like a lot, until you figure I tally up about $4000 per month. Times 3% is about $120 per month I get back in CASH.

Not exactly chump change. So, when the J quits taking my VISA... it hits me pretty hard.

Yup. T/A bases their discounts on volume.
