I have a old rig master about 5 yrs old to be exact, and it doesn't do the job when it comes to cooling the truck off.

So I'm looking for some ideas from you all, one of the ideas I had was to look into getting one of those air conditioner units you see on top of motor homes, but I not sure if that is even possible?

I'm going to thermo king in about a week to see what they can do if anything. I really can't spend another summer in this hot box, and with the fuel prices so out of wack running truck is just out of the question.

I don't want to buy a new rig master because the one I have works great if you don't factor in the air problem. So any ideas or problem solutions would be greatly appreciated.[/b]

Sounds obvious to me that something is wrong with it. Maybe a coolant leak or needs to be recharged. If you get a thermometer you should be outputting about 45 to 60 degree cool air. It would take any shop about 5 minutes to tell if the unit needs a recharge.

I would have it checked before doing anything. You should be able to put a roof mounted RV a/c unit in the truck, depending on how your truck is made. I have also seen some who have put a small air conditioning unit in the rear of the sleeper. That would be less expensive. I have seen a few that look really nice. The least expensive thing would be if the unit simply needs recharging.

If you install a roof air unit, you should be able to power it using the generator function (120 volt) of your APU, simply by plugging it into the provided outlet that came with your APU, assuming it came with one. Most RV air units are 13,500 btu's, but you could probably cool your sleeper with a smaller one, maybe 7000. The smaller one might be a little cheaper and lighter.

With the TK you can get an air conditioning unit, apparently it works quite well.

I've talked to a few guys about the tripac, and they're extremely happy with it. Much quieter/efficient then other brands.

Only problem is it needs to run 100% of the time to run the air conditioner.

It's plenty cold enough, the problem is that not enough air comes out. Thanks for the info so far.

I had the same problem with my trucks AC when I first got it. I found out there are 2 air filters and when I took them out they were clogged to the max. I put new ones in and instant wind tunnel.

That sounds like the cheaper fix to me. Steve is correct, filter(s) can cause your problem.
