Thanks alot for the color commentary Steve, I just happen to have been about to devour a spinach and cheese pizza. Guess it will have to wait for breakfast.

It's a Tiger Salamander. We had 5 living in our basement out on the farm, years ago when I was still in school. Harmless.

Gila Monsters are bigger, do not have the smooth skin of a salamander, and are highly venomous.

Gila's are about a foot long and Hiss like Tootie said it did.

Gila's are a lot bulkier, though. And salamanders hiss, too. At least ours did.

I saw one in Cozumel Mexico out in the boonies. Not sure what it was but it was maybe 3 or 4 feet long from head to tail. I sort of cut it off checking it out and it got pissed. Ran at me, hit me with it's tail and took me right off my feet and ran away. Huge bruise on my legs. I guess that's how they fight.
