Yeah been having to work closely with my insurance broker(she had given me quotes and ran my driving Info previously a couple weeks before), that was really touch n go cuz they wouldnt give me my 30 day temporary registration without proof of insurance, and since I didnt have a truck before I didnt have any policy # to give them :-p But once I had the truck I sent the Info all by fax and got back what I needed by fax.
Yeah no pics for a while sorry lol.....yeah and it was intense, I thonk I could have done maybe 1k-2k better if I was experienced at this, the dealers were all sizing each other up n the trucks n I felt like a fish outa water there since my first ever auction, well I hope to make a little $ outta this truck then plan my next move, yeah if I had it to do over I might have took the Sterling over at Freightliner, but didnt know if he would come down to 20 or 21k(he wanted 24k), so far when I try to talk them down (salespeople) they all have just laughed in my face :-p so when I uped my bid to get that one I was thinking didnt really want to but what if I cant get the Sterling for less? I wanted it for 18,000 (my first bid) but another dealer bid 18,500 so I had to go 19k and bidding is kinda a wierd experience (to easy to get caught up in the bidding and not think clearly).

So did you get a temporary short term policy or are you using the same bobtail policy that you will use when you start hauling? I hear that it's difficult to buy bobtail unless you have a copy of the lease?

Steve, how did you get your tractor home? (insurance wise)

I had my cargo and liability before I started looking for a truck and trailer. Didn't make much sense buying a truck unless I could get insurance.

Well basicly I think Ive followed what Steve did Red. I had negotiated everything with the insurance broker before and had explained what I needed beforehand, that I needed a mil liability cargo insurance and they write so many policies up they kinda know what you want ahead of time (when you explain what authority you want), I know I should have probably dble checked the policy but because of my lack of experience I kind of have to trust to proffessionals and she seems to really know her stuff when writing policies up (i gathered from the questions she asked me when I came to her for a policy).
All she needed was the truck Info. to get it all into effect, if I had my authority I could haul out of here, but thats another mess I need to fiqure out :-p

Apply for your MC number quick because that takes the longest to get. There is a waiting period. I don't remember how long but it's like 30 days or something.

Once you apply you can go on the web site and keep checking to see if your authority has been approved but not necessary. The second it's approved your phone will ring off the hook from people trying to sell you extra services.

Sounds likes my "drive home" insurance situation would be different because I'm not applying for my own authority, I would just be leasing on with a carrier, so no cargo/liability.

Umm yeah, you need just regular truck insurance, the same you will need to lease on with the company. Red the principle answer I would say is the same, just call your insurance broker, say you just want an insurance policy to lease on with a company (to cover your truck only, just explain what you need to do) and then when you buy the truck you contact your insurance when you have bought the truck (no need for two policies is what I am saying)......hope I understood your question and helped some....sorry if reduntant

Thanks, yes you understood correctly. I've read that many insurance companies won't issue bobtail insurance without seeing a copy of the lease agreement, although I'm not sure why. Kind of hard to provide before you decide with whom to lease...
