Your log book has nothing to do with your pre or post trip inspection, besides the fact that you have to show you did one on line 4. At yellow they issued us company log books and at the end of the day they gave us a form to fill out that we did an inspection and there was a box for no defects and a box if you had defects. If you had a defect you checked the box and wrote in the problem. There was no checklist of any kind. I would think a company like yellow would know the laws and abide by them.

I have only one comment.

If I were a DOT officer, I would cite you for having a really poorly laid out log book.

Why you don't want to use a JJ Keller logbook is beyond me. It has all the things that are required by the FMCSA, and it is in a format that is well known to DOT. Not to mention that it will cost you more to do it this way than if you spent the $1.50 on a log book.

My personal opinion is that just by making your own, you are going to get more scrutiny from DOT if they stop you at a scale.

But it's not like you are reading this anyway.

OK OK OK... OUR FRIEND FROM NEW HAMPSHIRE DOES NOT HAVE THE FIRST CLUE OF WHAT REAL TRUCKING IS ABOUT. MORE POWER TO HIM IF HE MADE A FORTUNE IN THE TECH INDUSTRY, I WISH I WAS AS COMPUTER LITERATE. I'M NOT... SO HERE I AM IN THE TRUCKING BIZ AFTER 18 YEARS IN THE RETAIL CAR BIZ. IT WAS TIME TO DO SOMETHING I ENJOY.... I HAD A GREAT MENTOR( O/O ) WHO TAUGHT ME THE INS AND OUTS OF THIS CRAZY BIZ.

BUT,
TO REALLY SUCCEED IN THIS BIZ YOU HAVE TO THINK AS A BUSINESS PERSON FIRST AND A TRUCK DRIVER SECOND...OUR NEW HAMPSHIRE FRIEND IS NOTHING MORE THAN A STEERING WHEEL HOLDER WITH TO MUCH MONEY.

I HAVE BEEN AN O/O FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS... AND I DO NOT KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BIZ, AND NEVER WILL. I COULD HAVE BOUGHT THE LATEST AND GREATEST TRUCK AND TRAILER WHEN I STARTED , BUT I DID NOT ... I WAS A DRIVER FOR A SMALL COMPANY, AND LEARNED THE BASICS.

ANYWAYS THATS MY RANT, AND I AM NOT JEALOUS OF OUR NEW HAMPSHIRE FRIEND. IN FACT I SEE A TRAIN WRECK WAITING TO HAPPEN.
