My new truck questions
#222
Hey Steve,
I don't bring myself to the O/O forums much, but I was wondering how you were doing? We have had a few chats about "IT" before. I have been in the trade going on 30 years now. Obtained several certs along the way (MCSE..Unix..SQL..blah blah..blah). Anyway, I did a quick (Evelyn Woods) speed read on this thread, and I wish you the best. If I ever needed to center myself, or was without young dependents--I might have a stronger impluse to take the O/O plunge. But as GMAN pointed out, I am taking the less expensive and risky route (Company Driver). Even less risk, as I am only driving P/T. I must admit the more time that I spend behind the wheel vs the desk draws me to road. I really look forward to the weekends. Anyway, not to steal your thread, but I admire your pioneering spirit. Go for it! Try to remain humble with your successes and not crash (metaphorically) during troubled times. There is a first load out there waiting on you. BOL!

Gotcha, good things about assembly--less rules (low level programming) to deal with--and it's pretty hard to screw up 1's and 0's 8)
Lol...Just kidding!

Steve, I just got around to reading the 15 pages of this post, when are you going to get your book published? I want the first copy.
What is the name of your company? I think its great that you are getting into trucking and taking your time, purchasing nice equipment and making sure everthing is in tip top shape before hittting the highway. It will be alot easier since your equipment is paid for, a little less stress. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you are loading somewhere and need help with securment or tarping, most flatbedders will lend a hand as long as you help with their tarps. I have been pulling a flatbed for over 10 years and have made a good living as an owner operator. When you get to trucking and you ever end up in Oklahoma and need a load call Paul Transportation, Inc. @ 1-800-341-7285 and ask for Ryan or you can contact him at www.paulinc.com , he does brokerage and can help you in other areas besides Oklahoma and the money is good and paid on time, this is who I am leased to. Well good luck and I will be looking for the Big Red Star Car with the matching Skateboard.

I see a problem with your logs:
You left no room for the remarks, as you put your signature line where the remarks section should be, which is an FMCSA requirement You have no line for Truck number and Trailer number - both are FMCSA requirements Your "pretrip done and performed satisfactory" will not cut the mustard. You have to have a checkoff list for each of the items that are required for a pretrip. Furthermore, there actually is an FMCSA regulation regarding the log book itself - it must be approved by the DOT. I suggest you just go with a real logbook. If you don't want to believe me, I will look up the regs, but I just don't feel like doing it right now.
