I have had several cdl jobs and I have yet to find one that I can drive the speed limit and keep the boss and my wallet happy. I would love to find one but I have bills to pay and I like this job for the most part.

Where I drive a matter of minutes means breezing through a normally congested area and sitting in traffic for 20+ minutes at a clip. I have two loads to do a day and I normally use 12-14 hours to do them. If I did the speed limit I would be over hours most of the time. I'm also the guy finding detours around traffic which has saved me more time than anything.

And I also resent the statement that people that speed are idiots anyway. I speed and I'll tell you that I am far from an idiot. But I have a job to do and I will not be late for my appointment. And leaving earlier is not an option, I have set times I can deliver for both of my loads and if I chew up hours by leaving earlier and sitting then I am screwed for my second load.

Guess you should look for an hourly paying job then. If you have to break the law by speeding to get two loads a day done, then there is a problem.

I had an hourly paying job driving tri-axle and guess what... the boss would tell me to drive faster because I had more loads to do. And cut the crap about breaking the law... I go past PA,NJ,NY troopers all the time at 72 and they don't even look at me.....and the rest of the vehicles on the road.

So. You pass a state trooper doing 72 in a 65. YOU ARE STILL BREAKING THE LAW!!!!!. Let us know when you get your first speeding ticket in a truck so you can come here and whine about it.

72 in a 65. WOW. What a lawbreaker. 7 over the limit is practically nothing in most states unless they are having a crackdown. Otherwise, you can get away with 10 over for the most part.

Try something other then rock hauling and cement hauling. Foodservice is hourly and we don't have to speed to get the route down. I know some do but that is just the way they drive. I can leave with 12 stops, 700 cases and still be done in 8-10 hours with out having to speed. Fridays I do a double trip, one stop, reload and then 9-11 more and still am done in 9 hours. Try the grocery huals also, they drive slow.

By the way, nice sig line:

Running with the hammer down really don't do you any good if you end up with the rubber side up.

When I come into a city when the traffic is real heavy, and I know I have to make a left turn: I drive in the left lane. I'd rather already be there than have to try to change lanes in all that craziness. As long as I'm moving at a decent speed(speed limit or slightly under) I don't see a problem.

I could care less if you pass me. I'm getting paid by the hour, no matter how long I take to get the loads done. Granted, I need to get the job done in a timely manner but If you want to pass me, please, by all means, be my guest. As for me, I'm going to drive safe, not fast.

The line in my sig refers to the garbage haulers around here that flip over on I80 in delaware water gap at least once every six months. People that drive 7-10 over the speed limit are not running with the hammer down in my opinion.
