I drive for a local outfit and make really good money doing it. The thing I'm writing about that is so funny is how alot of you OTR drivers think were in a race.

I could care less if you pass me. I'm getting paid by the hour, no matter how long I take to get the loads done. Granted, I need to get the job done in a timely manner but If you want to pass me, please, by all means, be my guest. As for me, I'm going to drive safe, not fast.

Maybe if you were being paid by the mile you may think differently

I actually find the day cab guys to be the most eager to pass. They can't pass on the open road, so they blow through construction zones and urban areas at 65mph or wherever they are governed.

(55mph * 11 hours = 605 miles) * 33cpm = $199.65
(70mph * 11 hours = 770 miles) * 33cpm = $254.10

According to Einstein's General Theory of Relativity the faster you go the slower time gets.

So while the distance does not change the time it takes to go from point to point takes less time the faster you travel.

However, I'm not sure Einstein got it right and even if he did I don't think you would see the effect in your 18 wheeler.

One other thing about the Theory of Relativity. Weight increases as you go faster so you might be over weight.

Now back to the real discussion.

I will say honestly that I've had no problems so far with local SF drivers- so I'm assuming that that's where you're local (your profile).

But the local drivers in New Jersey scare the crud out of me. As do the ones down in L.A.

Then again, a lot of otr drivers scare me these days. Shiver.

The whole concept that us otr drivers are in a race is kind of silly. What bothers me about this attitude is that the REASON it may look like the otr guys are trying to get by you so fast is because they KNOW that the guys who are going slower tend to stay out in the passing lane. It can be really frustrating when all you want to do is go down the road but you have to jockey with a guy who won't be courteous and move over. That, IMO, is when things get dangerous.

Well said. Slower traffic needs to move right,regardless of the type of vehicle. There are a good number of idiots,mainly senior citizens on I-20 here in Dallas,who are very rude and just camp themselves out in the far left lanes doing 60-65mph unaware or uncaring of faster traffic dodging 3 lanes to go around them. It would be nice for Tx DPS to write hefty tickets to these goofs and revoke their license for a second offense.As far as the idea of slow and fast drivers reaching their destination at the same time,that doesn't work with every driver. I have passed scores of schneiders,J.b hunts,and Swifts and made it 2 hours early to the receiver and unloaded when one of them was just pulling in. :lol: Like another poster said,I have also seen local AND Otr governed trucks blow thru 55mph const. zones and 45mph town zones at 67mph. :shock: Yellow,Fedex,and Swift seem to be the worst.

I have had many of the UPS feeder trucks fly by me, even in states like IL of OH where it is 55 mph in the whole state, and I am governed at around 67 and will be doing max and still can't keep up!
