Well since everyone else is piling on I might as well too.
Well actually no, I'm not in the mood. And in this economy it's not a stupid thing to get on a forum and ask about possibilities. But young man, you might want to wait a few years. Besides, are you good with your hands? A building and remodeling boom is probably on the horizon. If I were you, I'd forget trucking and get into an electrician or plumber apprenticeship program. Forget carpentry, it's almost as bad as painting. Anybody that's ever watched This Old House thinks they can do it so the pay is low. Edit: HVAC!!! The world will pretty much run out of oil in your lifetime (if you're young and I suspect you are). HVAC is a very interesting field involving calculations about cubic volume and output and loss due to exposure to various elements. It's all very interesting. And then consider the changing energy sources the future brings. It's a very good field for a young person to try and become an expert in. Last edited by MichiganDriver; 12-09-2012 at 11:57 AM.

It also give something for us to think about when it's cold outside and we have to fire up the bunk heater to stay warm.

You know, when I was young, I received a few tickets...lots of them accually. The cost of paying them off, or sitting it out in jail, didn't really mean that much then. Yes, I was an idiot. Many years later, with nothing on my licence, and very low insurance rates, not to mention extream increase in the amounts of fines that are out there, being a safe driver is the only way to go.
The answer is yes, some dirtbag company will hire you to drive for them. And for the next five years, you'll eat that crappy paycheck, knowing you could do better working at McDonalds. Or you could wait it out three years, driving safer during that time, knowing that your stupidity is preventing you from getting into a career of a decently paid truckdriver until the points fall off your licence. And start with a decent CDL Truck Driving School. Do what you want....good luck.

Hello, I would like to become a truck-driver baddly...However, in 2011 I received 3 moving violation tickets, and in 2012 I've received 2 moving violation tickets..
I've never been in a auto-accident, nor have I ever had my license suspended... I have pretty good work history. Been working since 2005 within 3 different companies. But I do not have any CDL or truck driving experience... So my question is, with this resume of mine... Do you think I can get a job with a truck driving company? With a CDL class A license? The last time I received a ticket was April 2012..fyi. I also live in Illinois.. jobs you've had or the few that you've endured that barely pay the bills. At that point you'll likely be more ameanable to do what it takes to get a job that is going somewhere.. including being more conservative in your driving style. I had motorcycles in my early 20s and it was very easy.. almost effortless to end up going too fast on them and all of a sudden see some blue lights in the rear view and peer down at the speedo with that "uh oh" feeling. I wans't driving crazy or wrecklessly.. just faster than the law allowed while enjoying the pleasure of riding. In my 40s now..I've driven over 2 million miles in 18 wheelers accident free .. I've always enjoyed operating vehicles of all types my entire life. Be smarter in the way you operate your vehicles .. be professional about leaving on time and learn to stay cool behind the wheel even when you have a time deadline. Keep your license clear from here on out and understand that you're going to have to let your worst years/violations wise ... drop off your record. |
