Default Teaming? and diesel expenses

Hi guys and gals I'm back. Hubby and I wanted to give the dump truck biz every last effort before giving it up. Pretty sad deal down here in Florida. Anyway, enough feeling sorry for myself, school starts August 20th and so I'm back on the message boards to get myself educated up again LOL.

Questions!

1. How much money can my husband and I make per year driving as a team for a company? I hear they keep teams a lot busier then solos. Any husband/wife teams on the board?

At first my husband did not want to drive team, said he wouldn't be able to sleep. But that was the only con. So he changed his mind.

2. How much diesel does a tractor spend every week if it's being run about 5,000 miles a week?

That's all for now, I'm sure I'll have more later!

5000 miles a week / 6mpg = 833.33 gallons X $3 a gallon = $2500 per week.

5000mi @ 6mpg x$4 per gal = $3333.20 per week. But unless you own or lease the truck the fuel will NOT be your expense.

thanks repete, yes I know that wouldn't be our expense but we are gathering info now to see if we want to be o/o's. I told him we would get all this info ourselves once we start but he wanted me to ask now.

Im afraid the underlying problems you guys have of running your business will haunt you to your otr job also....
Sleeping in a team truck can be a challenge... make sure you have a foam matress, not spring. The first few sleep periods will be very hard, but once you have missed enough sleep to be exhausted, you will be able to sleep while the truck is moving.

What do you mean can you elaborate for me please? Maybe if I tell you what kinds of problems we have come across here you can tell me if I will run into the same problems with the otr biz?

I've heard about the foam mattress thing, I've also heard of getting an air mattress but not blowing it up all the way. I'm going to try every trick in the book! Money willing lol.
