Default Some advice in finding a carrier...............

I learned the hard way what's involved in hiring on a long way from home.

Sometimes the rules change and the agreement changes when you travel for orientation. The carrier thinks you won't say no since you are a long way from home.

Trucks don't go on vacation. I hired on with TMC 20+ years ago only to find that when vacation time came, I had to start it 750 miles away at the yard in Iowa. I'd be in a different truck when I got back and I had to stow all my gear.

If possible, try to hire on as close to home as possible if you have a family or need to be home anytime soon.

The big carriers have a huge turnover. Hiring and leaving is very bad on your application for the next carrier. There's a reason Yellow, RoadWay and UPS have no turnover and 30 year veterans. The pay is great as are the benefits and working conditions.

I could go on but you get my drift. Plan for 30 years when you hire on and not 30 days.
