I've never had any trouble out of my iPod in the two years I've had it. Works like a charm, and has taking a beating a Timex would cringe at.
I think the extra price for the Mac is worth it. Being able to talk to someone who speaks english if there's ever a problem is worth quite a bit there. My girlfriends HP crashed and after about 4 hours, she gave up calling India. But in the end, computers are like music and politics, no two persons preferences are the same. Personally, I have never talked to anyone in India. I have a 4 yr. warranty and don't need a cow worshipper. HP knows if they don't help me, I will just send it in if they don't help (at their cost). I just use the online chat and tell them exactly what I need. I hate talking on the phone personally. Of course, I know a lot more than the average computer user, too. Personally, if I ever have an issue I would rather try to fix software/driver issues myself (unless it's a hardware failure). How hard is it to update drivers or software? Worse case scenario, I have the restore DVD and don't keep anything important on the C: drive. I can restore the entire OS in little time (if I really need to). Some people install software program and software program (not always from reputable companies that don't test the software) that they don't really need. Most of the time, people have all kinds of viruses and spyware on their machines. My brother makes a lot of money just removing stuff like that from people's computers. (Maybe, I shouldn't drive a truck and do that instead.) But they wonder why their computer doesn't work like it used to. Odds are it was a software issue and not a hardware issue. On occasion, a piece of hardware does fail from time to time...but usually it is the software/drivers. How many people do you think actually read the EULA at the beginning of a software install. The thing might say we are installing all kinds of crap to steal your personal information. Very few people read it or pay attention and just click NEXT, NEXT, NEXT, OK, FINISH, etc. You would be surprised how many people don't get good AV software and update it every day. The same goes for Windows Updates. It's pretty much worthless if you don't update it. My Compaq (which is now part of HP) professional workstation (from 2001) is still running flawlessly...as is this HP laptop for the last 2+ yrs. My point is...your experience will be as good as your effort when it comes to computers. Use "uncommon sense". Take care of your stuff. Learn a few things about your computer. Too many people go online, with no AV or (not updated AV software) and just start clicking everything. There is nothing wrong with HP laptops! Usually, it's an ID 10 T error. Basically, Apple stole their OS...it's nothing more than a version of something that has been running on IBM machines for many, many years. You are paying more for the exact same hardware, too.

Well i picked up a T-Call load at the terminal, then headed 10 min. down the road to a Wal-Mart/Best Buy that had truck parking. I ended up buying an HP G60 for $450. more RAM, a little faster, and the screen seems bigger than my old one, but maybe not. i'm happy with it...just sucks being a little careless cost me $500......DUMB. =)

Kevin's dog was less than pleased with his choice of laptops.

I've got an Everex Stepnote that I bought online at newegg. I ordered it and it was here the next day. It has a 19 inch screen and is pretty nice to watch movies on. Also a webcam which i dont use but it does work. It also has an nvidia 8600m GS Geforce chip for graphics and a dual core amd64 Athlon Which i am quite happy with. Cost about $600 or so. The only thing is that is seems to run hot but so far that hasnt been a problem at all.
I highly recommend newegg for service and price.

Oh, my comp also has a slot for a second hard-drive in the bottom that you can just pop in. Thats handy if someone else uses your computer. Its like you each have your own dedicated laptop set up just as you like it.

Your not going to get a laptop with 16" or greater for under $500 unless it is seriously lacking in other components. Here is what I did, I looked all over craigslist at major cities I knew I was going to be in. In Phoenix I managed to get a $1000 laptop for $325! It's a Dell Lattitude D820, one of their most solid business class laptops. Has Intel Core Duo (2 Ghz x2), 4gb Ram, 320GB HD, and a descent Video Card, built in WiFi and Bluetooth, 15.4" widescreen. Has a DVD-RW DL Burner.
There are some really good deals on craigslist, but you need to take some time out to look for it. I looked through over 6 major cities at thousands of posts before finding a laptop that fit my requirements in my price range. I also got me a big CB radio for a damn good price too off of craigslist.

The answers are there, But I do not know where. Optimistic and hopeful dreams, Are all I have so it seems. The future I do not know, So all I can do is take it slow. But I do know it will work out, So I wait and watch without a doubt.

If you want the same thing you have now why not get a new screen? Not too hard to put in, 2 screws where the wiring harness and invertor board are and 4 screws hold the trim around the screen.
Look for your make and model for parts on Ebay and find one with a good screen. HP PAVILLION DV6000 15.4" LCD SCREEN - eBay (item 270364118772 end time Apr-24-09 10:30:29 PDT) I bought 3 Toshiba laptops for parts off Ebay and made 1 good for less than $100. well said, though usually you won't find a good screen for less that $250.00- you're wanting no cracks no dead pixels and a good backlight-- though with the economy the way it is... hell I found a completely working/ like new Toshiba A75 for $100.00. There's only 3 makers of LCD's-- LG Phillips, Chugway(something like that in China, and 1 other) you can find your make & model number on the back of the screen. Ebay has plenty of them.
