If you're ever up on I-70 in Colorado, I highly recommend you stop off at a little truck stop called the Tomahawk in Glenwood Springs (exit 114). They only have 4 truck parking spots, but if you can snag one, there are several FANTASTIC Mexican food places all within walking distance.

In fact, if you're in Elko, NV.... they have downtown parking for trucks with Casinos all around you AND a "red light" district nearby!

The Spotlight 29 is a good stop!!

The 102 in New Mexico is Sky City. I stopped there once and and got the buffet and the indian woman was swatting flys off the roast while she was carving it. Won't be going back there. I stop at the 140 in New Mexico at the Route 66 casino. it's a nice place with plenty of parking and good food.

Best steak I have ever had was in Wyoming. There is a little steak house and lounge just past (next exit) the westbound port of entry on I-80. It is next to the Sapp Brothers truck stop. The steak is so big they bring it on it's own plate. Potato comes on a seperate plate with the loave of bread.

When it was still hot out and I ran the north route to California I always stopped in Mesquite Nevada on the Arizona/Nevada state line. There is a hotel/casino there called the Oasis that gave truckers a room for $17 a night. Couldn't idle the truck for $17 a night last Aug.

The sale barn restaurant in Texhoma on highway 54 is good eating.

T-Joes is next to Sapps in Wy, a good steak. Cabela's in NE {mm58 ?} is great place to shut down also, but it most always{for some reason }cost me at least $100. And the Stage Stop outside Boise is good for a nice hot bath.

Golfhobo, I been good just trying to stay as busy as they'll let me. Hey thanks for the info on Jubitz, I really like that place, I'll have to try that buffet sometime but I'm big on their egg salad sandwiches they have at their deli. I totally forgot to mention my other favorite place to stop (when time permits) is the casinos right there in Wendover, Nv. Plenty of truck parking and last time I was there, as long as you have a CDL you can get a free shower there in the trucker lounge, probably the cleanest free shower you could ever have! I can guarantee their cleaner than any chain truck stop shower.

Amen on that one, you sit at the long table in the drivers area just like a family meal and the food has always been an excellent value. Everyone from the girls upstairs in the business office to the wait staff to the c-store clerks have always been extremely friendly. Full service fuel islands at self service prices, not many of those around anymore and the truck pumps are right out in front not hidden waay out back away from the eyes motoring public that we scare away. Not to mention, it's a truckstop owned by a trucking company so they really are there for the driver, not like the big chains that simply use the driver to pay for all the nice stuff for the 4 wheelers.

The Stage Stop in Boise used to have signs in the restaurant telling none drivers they could eat there but they were second in line behind drivers. Haven't stop there in years so I don't know if it's still that way. They used to be owned by the same people as Jimco in Ripon, CA, not sure if that one's even in business anymore.

The salebarn on 54 in Texoma TX,OK has good food and plenty of parking. It can get a little crowded and noisy on sale day but they welcome drivers.

Most all the Stamart travel centers in North Dakota are good stops. The big one at exit 66 in Fargo is huge, the showers are clean (the floors are heated), the restaurant is a bit pricy but the food is good, the travel store has just about everything and the drivers lounge is more like a 5th avenue cigar bar, very top notch.

I can count on one hand how many times I've eaten at a chain truckstop in the last 10 years and haven't found one yet worth going back to. They are all overpriced, the food is re-heated frozen crap and the wait staff acts like it's an imposition on their time to have to wait on a driver. Of course I have an electric skillet and inverter so I cook 99% of my meals right in the truck and can have hot, home cooked meals 3 times a day for less than what a cup of coffee and two eggs cost in a Flying J.
