I'm having trouble locating local small O/O in my area to find job. posted on Craigslist and visited the ones I know. couple of truckstops in my area but not much. Thinking of going to some truck repair shops to ask if they might know of anyone. any thing else I can do to locate an O/O that may be looking for a good driver?

You could post something around the drivers lounge in the truck stops. If there are truck dealers in your area, you may ask them if they know of any owner operators who own trucks. When you say owner operators are talking about those who lease to a carrier or have their own authority? Some people get a little confused about that. If you want to driver for an owner operator who leases to a carrier then you might check with some of the owner operator carriers, such as Landstar, CRST Malone, Jones, Mercer and others who have owner operators. Some carriers will assist you in finding a match. I know that there are fleet owners who lease to Landstar and CRST Malone. I am sure there are fleet owners who lease to other carriers. If you want to find someone who runs their own authority then you could check the safer system and find those close to you. Some of us prefer drivers who live in close proximity to our base.

trust is earned not given automatically! I would review any companies fine print in regards to paying for school. Also look into self pay if at all possible. Many companies will state they will pay for everything but you will in turn be their slave for a year or so. Also I have heard horror stories of companies not making loan payments to schools. review everything as you would any other business transaction. Oh yes, and give tankers a try!

Wow splishift! That is indeed an excellent website reference point. Every company name that I could think of in Indy was listed there. Goes to show that you can show an old dog new tricks. Even a local one!
Thanks

Check to see if there is a local community college or state vocational school that has a truck driving program. It will be much less expensive and there may be funds available to assist you in paying for the school. |
Thanks
